That was already five years that he was there? That went by fast. Hope they get a good coach going forward.

A couple years ago, Leery said Purnell was the only coach in town he'd refer to as "Coach" (as opposed to their first name), because he had so much respect for him. It was a lollercoaster then and it's a lollercoaster now.

...why?

So is this resignation Purnell getting tired of DePaul and walking away, or is it DePaul diplomatically firing him because they don't want to fire an old brother for doing the best he could with a program that's engineered to be garbage?

The writer apparently feels it's the latter...

Purnell, 61, had his best season with the Blue Demons in 2014-15, going 12-20 and 6-12 in the Big East, but it was not enough to save his job as he lost his final eight games.

Jean Lenti Ponsetto, who has been the DePaul A.D. since 2002, should be fired in my opinion.

Yes.

They need to bring a slimy coach in and start paying for talent.

Izzo or Bo Ryan have to have another assistant coach itching to get a chance to be captain of the ship.

Since neither of those guys appear to be going anywhere any time soon (unless Lebron wants a new head coach), poach one of their assistants.

They have gone that way...Pat Kennedy.

But it does show that you need some coaching. He had 4 NBA player on his roster and couldnt make an NCAA tourney.

if SPMack wants to drive Robt Smith here, fine, he gets a 2 year deal. If he is really going to bring city talent to Chicago, then OK

Strickland is the guy they should bring in. He has the DePaul connections and the Calipari slime factor. I'm not sure he has a college degree though and if not, that would probably be a sticking point.

Seriously? What the hell does that have to do with anything. Strickland sounds good to me.

I think they have some rule about the coach having a degree. It may have prevented Aguirre from being an assistant.

But will the alumni base pony up the signing bonuses needed? Doubtful.

I'm not close enough to the situation to understand the boosters and the relationships. I would guess there are old school people that are still seething that they fired Joey twenty years ago. Those are probably the people that think Jeanie should have a lifetime job. I would guess there may be another faction that is simply tired of losing and maybe some from that first faction are moving into the second camp.

Too many west coast connetions.

Cant bring in the outsider/intruder again.

But I agree with Breeze and been saying it for years....JEANIE PONSETTO is the issue!

Let me try not to step on all the dreams of the fucking PCers around here and everywhere else...WOMENS COLLEGE sports are a loser and drain on a system. I am not saying they shouldnt exist and you can have your tittie 9 (Thats intentional for all you fuckwad!), but the sport or sports (Hoop and Football) should be spent on and should be focused on to bring in revenue...then you can buy nicer vaginal cups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depaul built a womens softball field on 2 acres of land at Belden and Bissel. The land value of that alone is estimated at about $50 mill in land values in Lincoln park. YOU USED $50 MILL IN LAND TO BUILD A WOMENS SOFTBALL FIELD....BECAUSE YOU PLAYED SOFTBALL AND WHO WOULD EVER RIP A SECOND ASSHOLE FOR SUCH A WORTHY CAUSE! I WOULD!

In The Meantime you renovated the shithouse where the basketball team plays and upgraded a terrible workout room into a below average room. "The Scholarship room".

The Hoop facilities (Dorms, practice, meetings, etc) that DePaul offers are equal to that of a small university off the New Jersey Turnpike!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have made little to no effort to bring back alumni in the Chicago area...especially those who played for them!!!!!!!! and those who can now CONTRIBUTE $$$$$

Just the guys I hung out with are probably good for $100K in Kickbacks, pencil money, FOTP...etc....

Let me agree with Curious Hair for a second. If the program isnt going to committ to big boy basketball, building them a facility was a bad idea, but this is the chance right now to make the change in the right direction.

While I attended DePaul for my final 2 years of "higher" education, it only helped me see what was behind the curtain and how bad it was going, but even if I didnt attend the school, I would feel the way, as this was the "PREMIERE" sports team in this city when I was 12/13 years old.

I agree their facilities are on par with Moraine Valley. Actually I believe Moraine just redid their facilities so Depaul is now somewhere above Daley College and below St. Xavier.

I would be all over Bobby Hurley. Just got Buffalo to their first NCAA ever, in his second year. Almost did it last year in his 1st.

I am thinking that might be a step down for Hurley.
