I have to spend a week there soon. Is there anything to do there besides Klan meetings?

Drink yourself to death? Or at least until you pass out.

I enjoy Carolina BBQ and I am sure they have some good options there. I'd try to go to a Duke or UNC basketball game if they are in town.
Tickets are likely available and cheaper for non conference games early in the season.

I went to Sullivan's Steakhouse. It was about as good as any other Sullivan's Steakhouse.

It was on a pretty fun looking commercial strip. I think NCSt students like to drink...a lot.

Raleigh, or Durham?

I've spent a lot of time in Durham and Chapel Hill over the past three years, but didn't get out to see a lot of nightlife. I'm not a big fan of Raleigh, but my girlfriend who lived there for a while likes it.

Touring music acts tend to go to either PNC or the Durham Performing Arts Center. I always was there in the spring/summer so I went to minor league baseball games.

The Pit in Raleigh is a sit-down place well known for their BBQ. Not quite a BBQ style I like as I prefer KC, but better than chain food.

Second Duke Gardens although the weather is kind of shit now for that. Campustown at UNC Chapel Hill is pleasant as well, but far from any part of Raleigh except Research Triangle Park. I really like Mediterranean Deli on Franklin (quick-service).

Raleigh has a fairly decent food and drink scene. There are a lot of tech jobs in the area...a lot of millennials and slightly older that like to have a good time. I haven't been there in a few years so I don't remember where all I went. Was only there for a couple days.

There is plenty of historical battlefield type stuff. I spent a few days checking out Greensboro between the beer and the battlefields...and a minor league game. There is plenty of good beer in NC surprisingly. Even though its a pizza place and pizza is not a NC thing...there are mellow mushrooms all over the place and its probably the only thing i miss about the south.

See if there are any concerts going on. There was a Rick Ross show in Greensboro when I was there and holy fuckballs is that just a sight to see. The entire downtown strip had police guarding every single business, the parking lots and streets were full of tailgaters and all the cars were totally tricked out, on airbags bouncing up and down and neon underneath them lighting it up.

You could visit the Dan Bernstein statute at the Duke student media complex.

Since you're only about an hour from Roxboro, you could take part in a KKK parade.

Wait for Marc Trestman and Cutler to come spend time with you in your hotel room?

The Pit was not good. It seemed like the place that the locals send the tourists to.

Crankarm Brewing was fantastic.

Trophy Brewing was also really good (great pizza options).

Whiskey Kitchen was solid.

Beasley's has awesome fried chicken (and a good beer selection).

The Raleigh Beer Garden has over 300 beers on tap. It was overwhelming. Really cool space though.

Have to go back in a few months....

so what was your favorite BBQ place?

Post subject:  Re: Raleigh, NC

The Pit was the only BBQ joint we made it to. People made it out to be awesome so we "saved" it for the end of the week.

I heard really good things about "The Blistered Pig" in Apex (just southwest of Raleigh). Definitely hitting that place next time.
