I will be in need of a rental car for my visit to Chicago.

Can someone who is an expert on the internets help me finding a good deal on a rental car from Ohare? Any coupon codes that can be shared?

My budget for a week's rental is like $200/$250. If thats not realistic then I'd like to keep it under $400 if i can.

The National Association of Realtors discount is pretty huge if you know anybody who is a broker.

Use the Schiller Park Enterprise.

No airport fees and It's maybe an $8-10 cab ride.

Priceline or hotwire is good if you know how to do it. It's not hard it just takes some practice especially for naming your own price on priceline. You basicallybstart low and move up slowly while adding cars you know are too expensive to match. Eventually you have to wait a day to try again.

If you are staying downtown, you don't want a car. Most downtown/Michigan Av. hotel parking is $45/night and up.

If one of your kids has a Costco membership, you can get a compact from Budget for $290 all-in after taxes for the week I looked at (6/9 to 6/16). Otherwise even the low-end car rental places at the airport such as Advantage wanted $310 or more, because the taxes at O'Hare are about a third of the total rental cost. (It's $55/week in taxes just for the new consolidated rental car facility).

If you go the Enterprise route and don't have a lot of luggage, check the Norwood Park location as that's near the Harlem CTA stop.

With Lyft, Uber, Metra, CTA all available why bother with a car?

Then don't rent it at O'Hare. Get a uhaul van for $20 a day in the suburbs.

If you are staying in the city, consider signing up with Zipcar.

http://www.zipcar.com/compare-plans/chicago

Looks like if you sign up for the monthly plan it would be $32 fee to start and either $9/hour or $74/day including 180 miles a day worth of free gas.

Walk along 90 during rush hour and hitchhike. What could go wrong?

Go to the top floor of the short term parking garage and throw yourself off of it.

If you need a car for one or two days it will almost certainly be cheaper to just rent it for those days if you are staying in the city. Airport cars get huge taxes put on them by the city. Doing a 1 or 2 day rental from a place by your hotel will avoid those and you don't have to pay for parking for a rental too and they are normally cheaper anyways.

It does depend on where you are staying though. If by city you mean "Oak Brook" then you want a car the whole time and don't want to do uber and taxies.

This is the best way to rent cars. Usually can get them for less than twenty a day.
