The locals love the Montgomery Inn. There are two locations, one right on the river.

You should check out Mt Adams, which overlooks the entire city. There are lots of cool bars and restaurants up there, and it has a SF hilly feel. You can walk along the Banks now and get to both the Montgomery Inn and up to Mt Adams if you like exercise and humidity.
