I'll be taking the lovely DW to Door County for a week of camping and hiking and kayaking.
Supposed to be a nice romantic trip.
Anyone got any ideas of what to do outside the tent? I already know what I want to do in the tent.
So, who knows the area well? We used to go when we were kids but never did any of the you know, romantic loveydovey stuff. Wine Tours? Nice Resturaunts?

Find a place that sells a new pair of balls because it is obvious you lost your own set.

Wow really? You must not keep your woman very happy. Sad for her... good for the rest of the male community.

We love camping and that's one of the best places I've been for it. Fantastic. You don't like camping?

 He lost his balls because he wants to take his wife out? Taking his wife out is a bad thing?

Have a great time. That is one of the only spots in Wisconsin I
haven't visited, so unfortunately I can't help you out. I have
heard great things about Door Co. though.

I guess I don't get it.
The hiking and watersports out there are outstanding. Does one lose one's balls when they go hiking? There's some awesome kayaking around Washington Island (I've heard). Do you have to have a vagina to go kayaking? I took some rapids this year that nearly cost one of us our life.
As far as camping goes, that's about the best place I've been in my life for camping.
So, where's the joke? Or is this just your general make fun of a guy for no real reason kinda post?

Why defend yourself, just tell them while their balls are turning blue this weekend you are going to be getting laid.

Unfortunately, it's not this weekend. In fact, the wife will be out of town this weekend. I'm looking for something to do, as it were!

Funny story... We got married in early Oct '06. And we wanted to go on a trip for our 3 year anniversary. So we thought it out and since we (at the time) didn't think we'd get to go camping this year, we thought we'd do that for our anniversary trip. But we definately didn't want to camp in October in WI. So we elected to go a month early for the good weather, so we could still do the rafting, kayaking.
So my wife calls the campground to make a reservation for 9/11/09. When they ask her which campsite we were interested in my wife asks for a more isolated one as we'll celebrating an anniversary. The lady says... "What the hell kind of anniversary are you celebrating?"

That story is a deee-light!

Somewhat unrelated, I too have a story involving a criminally stupid Wisconsin woman. This one occurred at whatever Injun casino is somewhat close (I do not recall nor do I care to research it). I found myself going with my brother and his now ex (aka "the succubus") to play Bingo. Why I went, I don't know, but that's immaterial now.

Anyway, I found myself going to play Bingo.

As is apparently Bingo custom, in addition to the standard group of games you purchase cards for, there are ancillary games you can enter (for a fee, of course) in addition to the stock set of games. The one extra game in question here was a "fill out your own card" game ... that is to say, you were given a blank card and allowed to write-in the numbers you wanted, in accordance with standard Bingo numbering.

Being a novel concept, and me feeling that I was carrying a little too much money at the time, I purchased a card, filled it out, tore off the top copy (keeping the "carbon" copy for later play), and turned it in for proper verification - apparently, there are enough morons in the world (or at least Wisconsin) that think, for example, that the number "57" belongs under the "B", or perhaps instead of numbers they draw pictures of a cocks ... I don't really know, but whatever the case a verification process was mandatory.

I need to digress for a moment to point out that my printing is very neat and clear; I write like a typewriter (e.g., my printed '1' is not just a plain vertical stroke, but with a line at the bottom and a half-flag at the top). Also, what with my being a dirty Nazi kraut bastard, I use slashies in my "7"s, "Z"s, and "0"s. I mention this because it's important to know what my "1"s and "0"s look like handwritten. We now continue this saga, already in progress.

After turning in my card to the proper authorities for their official examination, a game or two progresses, and between games they start to call out the names of people they need to speak to about their cards. It was a long list, and I sat there making fun of these rubes that were apparently too stupid to complete such a simple task.

As I was entertaining those around me with my terribly witty remarks, all of the sudden I hear them call my name - causing my brother to immediately point and laugh as though they had passed around pictures of my pecker. This ridicule coming from a person who, when they write, looks as if he stuck the pen up his ass and wiggled his hips in an attempt to make markings that might more resemble Sanskrit rather than English. Most curious (and embarassed), I trundled my way to where the 'review panel' was standing.

After waiting for roughly half an eternity, I introduced myself and asked what the problem was. They said they were having a hard time reading my card - I could not help myself as I blurted out, "you must be joking" in a none-too-immodest way. Undaunted, she pressed on by saying they couldn't quite make out some of the numbers on my card. I asked could I see which ones she was having trouble with. Her response was: "Your zeroes look like your ones."

I'll repeat that.

Her response was "Your zeroes look like your ones."

If you knew me, you would know that I have an unapologeticly immense propensity for blasting stupid people and when confronted by them I am overcome with an immediate need to "HULK SMASH" - though I am, of course, concurrently mindful that doing so generally leads to unwanted consequences, so, not unlike Homer Simpson, I generally internalize my anger, and yes I do have many an anger lump as a result.

Back to her statement --- hopefully you can see how painfully stupid it is. If not, please know that you have caused me to grow another anger lump, yet I will deign to explain it to you. The statement "your zeroes look like your ones" is not only grossly inaccurate, but also implies that they can, in fact, tell the zeroes and ones apart --- that is to say, they obviously could tell them from each other, otherwise they would have said "we can't tell what some of these numbers are" generally, rather than naming a couple of very specific numbers.

The story ends with me standing there rewriting a new card using a quick, messy, and unadorned version of the numbers, her saying "that's much better", and me hoping that a roving gang of large moose found her and shoved their antlers in any and every orrifice they could find on her. And, of course, me not winning and yelling "mother fuckers" rather loudly, even for me.

I know this is a strong "tl;dr" candidate, but I needed a reason to get my heartbeat above 4bpm, and recounting this tale of stupidity has done a fine job, though I do want to throw an office chair across the room now and yell various vulgaraties.

Now, get off my lawn and leave me alone.

The Winery and Brewery tours are wonderful in DC.

Also, me and the mrs. used the Door County Kayak Tours which is in Egg Harbor last time we were up there and it was great.

Nice tip on the brewery tours, we're gonna do some of that, great site, thanks!

Door County Kayak Tours was were we were going, actually. Glad to hear they did right by you. Love the endorsement. Thanks again.

My darling wife and I married in Door County and have been there many, many times. The following list is a set of places we have recommended to friends and family alike:

For breakfast:
White Gull Inn, in Fish Creek
Summer Kitchen, in Ephraim (great pancakes!) only open in the Summer
Door County Bakery, Sister Bay (just for coffee and pasteries)
Inn at Cedar Crossing, Sturgeon Bay (If you are this far south, this is a great place to stop)

For dinner:
Trio, Egg Harbor (excellent italian)
T. Ashwell's, Ellison Bay (where we had our wedding reception - awesome place, our favorite obviously, a little expensive, make reservations) the owner is from Libertyville and went to Kendall College here in Chicago
Inn at Kristoffer's, Sister Bay (Also pricey, but excellent food, make reservations)
Gibralter Grill, Fish Creek (casual lunch or dinner, pretty good pizza)
Bayside Tavern, Fish Creek (good sandwiches, great place to watch a game or get some drinks)
Fred & Fuzzies, Sister Bay at Little Sister Resort (picnic-like outdoor bar/grille) only sandwiches and chips but a great spot to watch the sunset - in Summer and Fall
Northern Grille, Sister Bay (we love the north woodsy bar atmosphere) bar food's pretty good too, very casual
Sister Bay Bowl - good food, Eddie is a fun bartender

Misc. fun stuff to do:
Peninsula State Park, love cross county skiing in Winter, hiking and renting bikes, the 9 mile bike trail is great (check out Eagle Tower and hike Eagle Trail)
Red Putter mini golf, Ephraim, old school place that has great character
Stone's Throw Winery, (location near Fish Creek and Egg Harbor) wine tastings, PC Junction across the street is worth walking through if you are there. Has a train that delivers your food if you sit at the bar
Shoreline Sunset or Lighthouse Boat Cruise (can bring food or drinks on the boat)
Ferry to Washington Island, check the ferry schedules ahead of time so you don't have to wait long. you can bring bikes or your car on the ferry. Schoolhouse beach is gorgeous.

Peninsula Players Outdoor Theatre, great lake view of sunset. get there early and sit by the water. They usually have fun plays, many Chicago actors live up there for the summer. Bring a jacket. It gets cold at night!
Fine Line Art Gallery - always interesting art and the owner (Sherry?) will talk your ears off at times
The visitors centers for Ephraim, across from the Village Hall, and Sister Bay, at Hwy 42 & 57, always have great recommendations on events going on around the dates you are there. It's definitely worth stopping in to talk to them and pick up some brochures. Judy in Ephraim is incredibly helpful and very sweet!

One place to avoid - The Chef's Hat

I hope this helps

Irish!
You are the man! That 9 mile trail at Penninsula State Park was something I was looking for details on (I couldn't remember if that was Washington Island or if it was PSP) so big thanks on that... but this list of eats is AWESOME that's exactly what I was hoping for.
By the way welcome to the board!
and...
thanks big time... :drunken: :drunken:

I'll be there for the Bears/Pack opener. You think that Bayside tavern will be a good bet? I'll be in camo.
