The former president of a Des Plaines-based wholesale distributor was sentenced Wednesday to prison for 2 1/2 years for selling salad dressing with fake expiration dates that made the bottles appear fresher.

Ross Marks, 41, pleaded guilty in June to one count of wire fraud in connection with the salad-dressing scheme he carried out in 2003 while operating Division Sales Inc., a family business started by his grandfather. The company later closed.
