It would be appropriate that the first park sold off be Maggie Daley Park

Nothing but wisdom and thought from Francis. Need to own something to sell it, unless you short a stock.

I wonder if there was some way to sell the CTA but guarantee enough subsidies for the buyer (or owner of the 99 year lease) that profit would be ensured for the corporate lordship. I know they wanted to brand the stations. North/Clybourn becomes Apple, etc.

Art Institute is another one I forgot to mention.

Selling the stations would have been the single best ides possible. Someone to clean up the puke and piss and maybe pay for security.

How would you make money owning a station?

I suppose they would collect the fares and sell advertising. I don't know. It's more dystopian than I'd like to think about.

The North and Clybourn station is basically attached to the Apple store right now...thats why it was used as an example.

How about the portion of the store that sells retail can be closed and still allow people to walk through to the train, where they go through the same turnstyles they do now.

For that, Apple pays the city rent, just like every other retail store pays the LL.

Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Enstein, McD's....dont they all have space at Ohare?

Its really not the scary futuristic novel that some think it is....and what is it that you will be missing, the ambiance of the existing train stations?

The existing stations need more art wherever possible.

Here's the cleaned-up Jarvis. I appreciate that it's not falling apart like it used to be, but plain white walls? We can do better. It's Rogers Park, it's not exactly a cultural vacuum. Paint a freakin' mural.

Art! yes ! Because that wpnt be stolen and/or tagged.

Thats a perfect example. On paper your idea is great! Wouldnt it be nice to have nice things....but we live in Chicago.

Over Under on how long a piece of art lasts?

There are murals under almost every viaduct in East Rogers Park and I don't think any of them are fucked up. I'll look closer next time I drive past them.

To brighten up the underground space where the lady at the end of the tracks just dropped trough and pissed.

Lots of L stations have some sort of public art installation, and they seem to be respected by their respective communities. Pilsen's station is pretty colorful. I don't think I'd want that everywhere, but it seems to work for Pilsen.

There's a piece of the Berlin Wall in Western Brown Line station.

hey CH, one day i was listening to howard stern when they had some pornstar whore on and she talked about how those sons/princes of the middle-east dynasties do business when it's yahaaaaa time.

basically they use american pornos as a catalog and if they like what ol girl's got going on, they'll put in a request for her services where they offer up anywhere from like $50-250k to fly her out for a week/end and to get her fuck on. she'll get imported with maybe a couple'a other whores and they'll be put up in the penthouse of a 5 star hotel where they're told they can do whatever they want, but don't get too drunk/fucked-up because at some random point during their trip when the kid calls you are to drop what you're doing and go over there and service the guy.

then when you get to the palace/whatever, you're taken to a room where it's damn-near-freezing with the air conditioning on full blast. you see, these american whores are viewed akin to swine by the royalty, and it's a serious no-no if this swine/chick was to sweat on the guy (which is odd cuz for some reason i dont picture the dude using a rubber, but maybe he does?) and then after awhile some long-donged prince kid comes in and proceeds to fuck the ever living shit out of you without any sort of passion (cuz if you're not allowed to sweat on the chosen one being akin to swine and all, well i reckon he's not about to kiss you) and then after an hour or two he's out like a fat kid in dodgeball and you're limo'd back to the hotel where you wait around for your private jet to take you to the states as your bank account suddenly jumps up ~50-250k in worth after the services rendered.

so yeah, when you're dealing with the kinds of people whose idea of fun on a saturday afternoon is grabbing a random peasant, torturing him for the lulz, eventually beheading him.... AND TAPING IT ALL (cuz who doesnt wanna have a souvenir for all the fun?) and then when you get tried for murder the tape of you torturing/killing the dude is admitted as evidence.... AND YOU STILL GET OFF, yeah, go figure they're kind of a bit dickish and perhaps a touch rapey when it comes down to it.

but hey, sometimes when i look at rush hour traffic and think of the countless gallons of gasoline being burned on that one highway of one metropolis in one state of one country of the world.... it boggles the mind how much gasoline is out there and how much $$$ these people must be sitting on, and therefore how much power they have. seeing as i can't see our society flipping a switch and doing a paradigm shift of, say, getting the suburban b-ricks of the world to embrace pubtrans... yeah i reckon this whole oil royalty thing will be going on for a long time to come... at least until they figure out what the next super-profitable means of powering the peoplemovers of the world are and they can corner the market on all those profits and then and only then do we make the big shift from gasoline-based combustion engines.

...and given that all this arab oil $$$$ is heavily invested in european football to help their public image, call it a hunch you don't watch a lot of soccer, eh? =D

Did you know that Pilsen was a traditional Mexican hunting ground named for Chief Juan Quetzalcoatl Garcia-Pilsen?

I must hang in the worst parts of town, because I see vandalism everywhere in the way of those oversized markers and acid etching markers on glass, but I guess the vandals leave the subway murals alone. Gotta have morals and values.

I assume a clean brick from the East German side? Otherwise bigfan would have a stroke seeing anything that isn't utilitarian.

i had no clue, but c'est la vie.

one thing i love about white/hipster gentrification of chicago neighborhoods is that it always happens in latino areas because by and large the white people don't have the balls to start moving into a black neighborhood and doing their loft/art-gallery thing.

could you imagine them trying to start taking over, say, cicero and lake back towards austin ave around the green line? i mean you've got oak park on the other side so it seems like eventually you could extend that affluence across austin ave and start taking over the austin neighborhood..... good luck with that!

Nobody bitches about the sales/leasing of lakefront/beach space to bars and snack shops, and thats about as much of a money grab as you could ever want. There is a reason most of them dont return back for a second season.

The public doesnt bitch because its ok to have a place to buy food and drink while at the beach.

Well, I would like the toilets to not smell like the elephant cages. If a company is willing to pay to keep something clean and useful that the city has failed to do so for my while life, then APPLE, MCDONALDS, ALS BEEF...have at it...and pay us for it too.

Not in Rogers Park. Courtyard buildings = gentrification proof!
