Michael J. Fox (Not The Actor) Arraigned in Rape
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (STNG) -- A 36-year-old bricklayer with an extensive and violent criminal past pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Will County Circuit Court to charges of raping a Naperville woman last year in her home.
A Will County grand jury on Wednesday returned an indictment against Michael J. Fox on a felony charge of criminal sexual assault, a spokesman for State's Attorney James Glasgow confirmed.
Fox, of Warrenville, was arrested last month on charges of raping the woman Oct. 29 in her home in west suburban Naperville. Fox and the 39-year-old woman had been dating for several months at the time of the alleged attack.
The woman and Fox met in May at a mutual acquaintance's birthday party. The woman claimed Fox became possessive and violent during the months leading up to the alleged rape.
Fox has been arrested 13 times since 1988 throughout DuPage County on various felony and misdemeanor criminal charges, and has spent a total of nearly three years in DuPage County Jail in connection with those offenses. They include four battery convictions, four drug possession charges and the 1994 theft of a snowmobile in Carol Stream.
His most serious brush with the law prior to the sex assault charge occurred in 2003, when he used a knife to stab a man in the hand during a brawl in a West Chicago-area tavern. Fox, who pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, served 94 days in jail, according to DuPage County court records.
Fox was on probation for that crime at the time of the reputed sex attack. A DuPage County Circuit Court judge could decide April 9 whether to negate the terms of that probation. Fox remained free Wednesday on a $50,000 bond. A March 13 pretrial date has been set in the sex assault case.
