No.

Maybe a bone in filet or a tomahawk ribeye... something off the beaten path.

Maybe they call it the beaten path, because it can be beaten.

Not really all that surprising. I've never really had a "great" steak in the south (incl. Texas).

Oh, man... you've been to the wrong places. The guy I mentioned owns a ranch and they age the beef themselves.
Best I've ever had.

The Taste of Texas steakhouse in Houston is probably the best steakhouse steak I've ever had.

Unsurprisingly as someone who prefers steak well done and puts ketchup or Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce on it, I'd rather have a cheeseburger.

This is where I've had the best steaks of my life.

In fairness, I haven't been down south/Texas in a short while looking for a steak, but when it occurred to me, it surprised the hell out of me as well.

Smoked Pork chop is the way to go, when eating the pork chops. Doesnt take long and you can finish it on the grill with some good sear.

Tried the smoked steak, not good.

You also have to understand that there is nothing about the south that Reader likes, he and I have had this conversation on more than 1 occasion.

What are you talking about?

Every steakhouse I've been to has plenty of options under $50.

Yeah, Filet, NY strip and Ribeye are all going to be under $50.

I frequently dine at the high end steak joints, & all have steaks under $50. Morton's is probably the most expensive. Personally, there is only one cut of steak that I will order, Rib eye.

No need to get anything else. Wet aged or dry aged?

Yeah, I'm not enough of a food snob to really tell a big difference but given the choice I usually choose the wet aged.

So under $50 then. Great point!

Also, they have a filet mignon for $43.

If you have to buy a $60 steak to actually enjoy it I'm actually quite comfortable with my opinion.

In fairness, we had to spend $126 million on our quarterback to enjoy that too.

I love old school steakhouses. Tom's in Melrose Park brings you the steaks on a rolling charcoal cart.

I was just there a couple of weeks ago. Not my usual crowd, but decent food. My grandpa was in town, and he used to go there all the time when he still lived in IL.

If you've ever heard of the late William M. Gaines, publisher of Mad Magazine, there's a story related to steak and burgers. It goes something like he was hosting a dinner party and while his guests were enjoying their steaks, he'd arranged to have someone bring him a bag of White Castle sliders -- something he had a passion for.

Tom's is great. I could drink that sweet garlic dressing. A racetrack favorite. Old wiseguys love it! I went to a wake for a wiseguy not long ago and my wife and I went to Tom's afterward. I walked in there, half the people in the dining room had been at the wake.
