I stopped at DD this morning and ordered a Boston Cream and an order of hash browns and thought it was weird that it was only $1.06. Figured it was one of those dealies.

I am in a weird place with their hash browns. They aren't terrible, and they are bite size which is good for driving, and they are only a buck. But it seems like they could do so much better. My DD is right next to an Arby's and I like their potato cakes, but those are $2 for 2, and they only staff like one and a half people to work the morning shift, so you end up waiting there too long.

Anyone had a donut milkshake? Chunks of donut in it?

I still go to DD here and there, but I avoid their hashbrowns like the plague. Brutal.

I knew I liked you, Bagels. I should note I don't really like bagels. Love beagles, though.

i don't mind fresh dd. their munchkins are awesome and is about all i ever get there anymore.

here in the quad cities we have some great hometown donut places. dd was completely gone for almost 15 years until they opened one back up a few years ago. We hardly noticed.

Come out to the cornfields and get a donut or two from your friendly Casey's General Store. Best gas station/convenience store donuts West of Pennsylvania. They make them onsite, and while not top-notch bakery quality, they put DD and most grocery store bakery donuts to shame. Their muffins are pretty great, too.

DD is just awful.

ETA: Actually, the Shell on 171st in Orland (used to be a Gas City) has this little donut counter that's been there for years...their donuts are a slight bit better than Casey's - they are small, fat, and densely good.

when our little 700 people village's gas station came up for sale, everyone wanted a 7-11. i alone apparently wanted a caseys. well 7-11 got it and its shit compared to the grub at casey's. casey's donuts are frozen and just popped in an oven though. not made fresh. they are still pretty good though.

they are big. plus things cost more here in the big city. I'd rather pay $2 for a great one than $1 for a shitty one.

i get it there are crappy donuts and there are big city prices at times, but i've had Voodoo which is like the mecca of donuts and they are not in a cheap city, and their big ass donuts were 1.25-2.00. i get it also..."weeeee we put fruit loops and bacon on our donuts, we are amazing, lets command a ridiculous dollar amount"

our best shops here are even cheaper than DD. about 10 bucks a dozen.

Not a big donut guy myself, but I would much rather get them from the bakery at my local grocery store, than DD.

DD doesn't even make the donuts in the stores anymore. They are delivered by truck in the morning.
