We don't go to any "supper clubs," but I'm always on the lookout for good, old school Greek diners.

Larry's in Plainfield and "Plainfield Delight" are both very good. The best Greek diners force you to have soup and also bring enough random bread to feed a family for a year.

There is a good one in Arlington Hts we used to go to, too... right down the road from the One Arlington North building off 53.

Sabatino's on Irving Park and Marie's Pizza on Lawrence are two of my favorite "Old School" or "Time Warp" spots in the city.

Yes. Awesome neon. Weird old building. The best relish tray I ever had and that includes Wisconsin. On Sunday it even includes little meatballs.

Yep. About time SW side/E. Park gets some love. There is a second one on 159th and Lagrange. Not sure if as good.

Ki's continues to be what Rayme's was--it's just W. of 53 on North Ave--is good and fits the bill. Gale Street Inn is the first restaurant I can consciously remember eating at. I think I was 3.

No, but it looks cool:

We must have someone who has been there.

That would be another criterion for an old school place- tableside prep.

Wife and I went there and brought the median age down from 62 to 61.75.

Haven't been there in forever...it's definitely an OLD crowd.

Nite 'N Gale in Highwood has been around forever. Ditka used to hang there as I recall.

Italian Village in the city is a classic.

Ray Radigan's...a famous supper club up near Kenosha on Sheridan Rd...did close down a year or two ago. Ray's granddaughter Mary Radigan wanted to spice up the menu a little but couldn't find agreement from the old timers...so she shut it down.

All great places. I didn't know Ray Radigan's had closed. Another one bites the dust. There was also that great place down near Waukegan Harbor that has been closed for awhile now. I can't remember its name.

In the same vein as the Anvil Club that denis mentioned, there was the Forge Club on Milwaukee Avenue. My former father-in-law was a member and we went there all the time when we worked together and had an office in Libertyville.

I just ate there on Saturday. I thought it was great. Yeah, you don't get a char on the steak like you would on a million degree broiler at Chicago Cut, but so what? That isn't the point. I will say the house Cabernet left a lot to be desired. I'll stick with Black and soda next time.

hit this place up when I lived in Rockford. My drum teacher from back in the day had a jazz trio that played there.

You've just given me inspiration for a new comic book. Nas is Black and IMU is his youthful ward, Soda. They roam Chicago smoking cigars, drinking whisky, and defending the honor of Jose Quintana.

Speaking of Cabernet, JOrr, have you tried the new Robert Mondavi Private Selection? It is Cabernet that aged in Bourbon barrels. I like it, very smooth.

I had a glass of it somewhere not long ago. Nice. I'm a big Mondavi fan, Napa pioneer. Their higher end wines hold up very well, and even the cheap stuff like Woodbridge is drinkable.
