Should be there around 4:00. Four of us from work, and my dad may stop by. He lives in Wauconda. I mentioned it because you're close. And yes DW would be a nice addition. My wife can't make it. She has to drive my daughter around.

PS: the red hat, please!

Lol. The fez might be retired.
DW is hanging out with rynos wife that night I just recalled. Shopping for dresses for our 10th anniversary dinner.
So I'm solo.

Well I got your food and drink covered as a very small thank you for the hospitality. We will be there 4:00-9:00-ish.

I think Pepsi is terrible. Coke is ok...I think I have a bit of a nostalgic love of RC. It's what granny used to buy when I was a kid.

Last place I remember having it was El Famous Burrito when they were still in Vernon Hills.

I had some Coca Cola Light in Mexico City a few weeks ago. It's vastly superior to Diet Coke.

The gyro exists. I've had one.

So I know he's telling the truth.

Getting back to old dining spots, The Longbranch in L'rable is a cool old country dining joint. Good steaks and prime rib.

There's a place called Andrew's Open Pit in Des Plaines that fits all of JORR's criteria, but its in a strip mall, kind of, though you would never know it from the inside. Pretty sure they at some point moved from a freestanding space and replicated it down to the cigarette burns in the maroon vinyl bar bumper.

Noodles at Higgins and Austin, currently closed, reopens every couple of years and has a fire. Biasetti's and Gale Street Inn already mentioned.

I'm trying to run though the places I would buy my Mom gift certificates for at Christmas.

In Green Bay our family used to go to THE definitive old school dining place. It was called the Rock Garden. Before you got seated you hung out in the lounge area and feasted on pate, toast points, and bologna salad while tossing back a brandy alexander or three. When seated you could gorge on chicken gizzards at the salad bar. If you didn't manage to fill up on all that you could tear into a big, fatty disk of prime rib. This place had a cigarette vending machine up until 9/11. Now its some horses abortion called 1954.

It was always a real treat when Dad would let me go buy him a pack of smokes from the vending machine after some fried perch.

I don't remember, but you're right... this one was not a Greek diner... just a regular diner. I think it actually changed ownership when we used to go there a lot and the quality went downhill. I can't find it online now.

The Kappy's on Dempster in Morton Grove is definitely a Greek diner.
