It can be hundreds of dollars per month. Depends on how many kids you have, etc.

I had a black sheep family member that shouldn't have had it and would use it...liberally. You also get discounts on some things...so you can "sell" those cheaper purchases to others and make a bit of money.

The system is bullshit. Some folks can profit from poverty.

Sounds like Capitalism to me.

Not by the poor. Then it's theft and fraud from a typical hypocritic republican.

Ask the congressmen who are pushing the Choice act or looking to cut financial regulations to aid the Wall Street types in pushing legal loansharking of the poor.

How much are these people really ripping the government off for? A few grand a year? Pocket change compared to contractors charging a million dollars to repaint a drawbridge.

The system is bullshit. Everyone involved is into some shady shit one way or another. Politicians aren't philanthropists. Wall Street lobbyists are bullshit. Social activists are bullshit.

The federal government is simply too involved and has too much power. It will never be a transparent entity with the sole goal of improving the lives of the average American.

Similarly to ripping fares off to the tune of $5 a pop, two wrongs don't make a right.

Where do you draw the line? Shellfish, steak, 85/15 ground beef?

Worked for years down in a heavy link card dependant area of town. We would have to bring in 4 or 5 cases (each holding 4 large containers of vanilla Hagan Dazs) each delivery for the first of the month. $12.99 a pop for ice cream and we'd sell through it all. So yeah there should be a line.

Maximum amount is based on family size. For 2017 (monthly max):

1 $194
2 $357
3 $511
4 $649
5 $771
6 $925
7 $1,022
8 $1,169

Now in fairness, these maximums apply to families with zero reported income -- and obviously we don't want people starving. But it is easy to imagine massive fraud with under-the-table incomes and other ways to game the system.

This may shock MANY, but I generally don't disagree. I just question the motives of the most ardent hardliners in this area

I don't think one has to be considered a hardliner for pointing out waste or fraud in a program like EBT. They shouldn't have to also be required to point out every other fraud like Wall st. People should be able to discuss this without automatically being thrown into the evil pile of the subject.

You can be upset that fraud happens even if it's only a couple grand a year. It doesn't necessarily mean you are spouting the typical they have jordans and get their nails done crap. I'm sure the vast majority of welfare recipients are white anyway and they use their fraud for cowboy boots and country music cds.

I just find it hilarious that many who profit by premium or snack food purchases have negative thoughts about a substantial portion of their client base.

Maybe this could be good for the city because maybe the drug dealers will start a pop business. If you remember history the organized crime in Chicago really took off with the start of Prohibition.

I worked the area I was talking about for 10 years and I was out there on a daily basis 5 to 6 days a week for 10 years. I sold more high dollar products when link card be refilled. It was something that happened every single month for 10 years.

Philly now revising their budget as they expect to come up very short of projected sugar tax revenues; however, they are blaming it partly on people stocking up prior to the tax going into effect which seems a little hard to believe... I doubt the Johnsons have a six month supply of Mountain Dew stocked in the cellar.
