Why Bangor? Bar Harbor is better if you aren't going for a specific reason.

Since you are driving, be sure to give yourself some time near Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Outside of Arcadia National Forest, this was the best and most scenic part of our driving trip out there. The Omni hotel there is awesome but expensive.

I guess that's why she invited me over to Bangher on Thursday.

Big Stephen King fans, plus a mutual friend lives in the area.

We definitely have time to explore, so Mount Washington should go on the agenda.

If the Mrs has a Facebook account, have her follow the Bangor Police Department.

Well tell him I said Hello. Go drive by his house. Inneresting. Also the Bangor Public Library is very nice due to his donations. If you like Indian food there is a good place, Bahaar (Pakistani actually). Tesoro's has good pizza. Interesting area. Lived there for a year or so. Make sure you pronounce it properly.

BanGORE.

If you're looking for a roadside stop with some decent lobster, check out Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier in Kittery Point. A bunch of well maintained outdoor tables right on the pier on the creek -- you can watch the lobster boats go in and out. They are BYOB, but there's a microbrewery off of Rt 103 about a mile west of there. Food is basic, solid lobster fare.

Bar Harbor is beautiful. Acadia is okay but definitely a lesser National Park. You can take the high speed ferry over to Nova Scotia from Bar Harbor, see whales and gamble on the boat. NS is basically Maine but somehow even more boring. If you hate America, you'll enjoy its many monuments celebrating loyalty to the crown from the Revolutionary War days.
