Staying downtown? What is your bubble? You open to going north, west, south?

They're staying at the Hyatt McCormick Place and will probably want to stay within the city limits. They'll be Ubering around.

I'd go to one of the neighborhoods and walk around before or after dinner.

Tuscany and walk Taylor Street. One of the places in Greektown. Il Vicinnatto in the other Little Italy. My favorite place in Chinatown is Moon Palace but there are plenty of places. Maybe a pizza at Medici in Hyde Park or a Mexican place in Pilsen

In the Millennium Park area, there are a few places:

Brown Bag Seafood - if they want to eat a little cheaper, good place
Wildberries Cafe - Great breakfast and brunch but a bit pricey.
The Gage - Pricey but a good selection.

In the Hubbard Street area there are a ton of places:

Slurping Turtle - quality has decreased a bit but my favorite for ramen
Bub City - Good BBQ and drinks
Havana - Good cuban food

Other than that, Beercade is kind of a fun experience and a good way to waste time while drinking.

Otherwise I echo Good Dolphin. Lincoln Square is great and accessible right from the brown line. Great to walk around and lots of places there.

This may be an odd request, but what would you guys recommend for a place that serves authentic Cubanos? Been jonesing to try that sandwich since I saw the movie "Chef" last year.

Havana on Clark is pretty good
90 Miles Cuban wasn't as good as the reviews claimed, but it was decent
Puesto Sandwich Stand was mentioned a few times by Bernstein. Haven't tried it, but take it for it's worth.

I looked at Havana's menu. A couple different Cubanos. Yeah 90 miles Cuban was on triple DDD, but I'm pretty sure Guy overhypes just about everything. Nothing wrong with trying to help a restaurant tho, so I don't blame him. Bernstein is a foodie, but he is quite insufferable. Hmm. Thanks Hoffy.

I agree that 90 Mile is good, but not as good as people will have you believe.

The one that I really want to try is Cafecito on Wells and Madison. Starting at about 11 there is a 50 person line out the door till 2. Looking on Yelp it looks really good.

The other one I want to try is Puesto Sandwich Stand on Sheffield just south of Roscoe. Gets great reviews on Yelp, but has odd hours in that it is only open for dinner.

I'm not a big fan of 90 Miles. The Cubano at Sox Park is better than theirs. So is the one at Frank and the Cubans.

Cafecito (and the jerk chicken sandwich is even better than the Cubano)

I had a steak with chimichurri the first time and 90 miles and everything was delicious. The next time, I tried some prok dish that was one of the "specialties" and it was nothing special/very ordinary. The hype train creates unrealistic expectations there.

I had similar experiences. 90 mile was highly reviewed so we decided to try it. I got the Cubano and it was kind of tasteless. My wife got a shrimp and rice dish that she said was really good.

I went to Carsons in downtown - it sort of sucked. It was the place to be 30 years ago.

Jerk chicken sandwich and Cubanos in the same restaurant? Say no more. This is where we'll go.

Just tried Cafecito for the first time as I sit downtown waiting for my 9:00 trial to start (eta now 2pm). Had the Cuban sandwich. Not exaggerating when I say it's the best one I've ever had!

Got there just before noon and it only took about 15 minutes to order and get the food. Place filled
Up as I was waiting though.

Definitely gonna go back and try something else. There's about 10 sandwiches that I want to try lol.

Carson's has been awful for at least 25 years now.

I know. I'm trying to be nice to him this week. He's a very sensitive type.

I got the Cubano and the Lechon, both very good sammiches.

Waiting to go back and try the rest, I can't see to just get 1 sammich from there.

Went to a place tonight for the first time called Plateia, it's about 9800 N Milwaukee in Des Plaines or Glenview. Very contemporary-looking restaurant/taverna with great, straightforward, fresh, not-reinventing-the-wheel Greek food. Best Greek food I've had in a restaurant in probably 15 years. Would highly recommend.

I go to the Pita Inn next door for lunch a lot. Was wondering if we should try it.
