I don't freeze up. I tell them no, its not ok but I guess I'll settle for it.

Its all very confusing

"Pop" is the preferred nomenclature. One syllable.

A pot pie is a pie, I guess, same as a mince meat pie. So I'll walk back pies are desserts. They do use shortcrust pastry though. Pizza is made with yeast dough.

The guy at Perry's Deli got all over me about asking for a bag or a sack, don't remember which one, but he claimed that Chicagoans only say one of them.

I don't know which but I apparently said the wrong one.

That's because a can "pops" when its opened.

A pie has fruit in it.

Fruits don't like to get into pies. Amirite?

I don't know if this changed everywhere coincidentally when I moved to Pittsburgh but for restaurant leftovers they ask if you want or you ask for a box. Seemed I do not remember when doggie bag died out but it is strange to me.

I haven't heard the term "doggie bag" used in a serious manner in a restaurant in probably 25 years.

Yeah but I was struggling to recall what I said before "box".

I haven't either. But I miss it.

They even had a dog printed on the bag usually.

Half the time it was for me and not the dog.

I refuse to believe there was a "pre-box" Mike.

As a kid in the early 70s, "pie" seemed common iirc. Now it does sound odd outside of Italian communities. Tomato tomato, I could care less

In a Seinfeld script it makes sense to call it a pie sometimes because you don't want the actors to say the word pizza fifteen times in thirty seconds. It brings a certain distracting energy to the joke -- contrast with the scene where they are talking about the Mexicans ordering seltzer and getting salsa because the whole joke is about it sounding the same.

I think you could use pie if there's a pizza sitting in front of you, and you don't call it a pizza pie, you just call it a pie. But I don't think I would personally do that. If I owned a hot air balloon business and wanted to run a "Pie In The Sky" promotion where you eat a pizza up there, I think that is fine too. Most of the times I think it is OK is if you are working a pun or a joke in, except jokes about Felix Pie because it doesn't sound the same and therefore won't work very well.

Semi.

I also miss the doggie bag. The white bag with red lettering with the picture of the dog.

I really like that song, but there's this:

I'm a friendly stranger in a black sedan
Won't you hop inside my car?
I got pictures, got candy,
I'm a lovable man....
