You have a lot of local pillars in the area - Barraco's (my favorite), Vito & Nick's, Palermo's. We're doing a fantasy draft at one of the guys' houses and somebody wants Phil's. What is he talking about? Is anybody familiar with Phil's? Is it worth skipping the major pizza players for Phil?

If it has any relation to the Phil's that I knew 20-25 years ago on 59th around Lawndale it is very good.

No way. That's how you know it's good.

If its like Gepetto's you know the guy is playing the Italian card. If a place like Phils or Pats stays open over a year, its good pie.

The pitching machine, now that was a good pie.

Phil's is great. Tons of toppings, tons of cheese. Like 2 or 3 pieces is all you can eat.

Sounds like a challenge.

I think you and I and kindred spirits when it comes to food, Hankus. I would set the o/u at 5.5 pieces that are not sissy small corner cuts, and I would probably struggle for the over.

Phil's is solid. It reminds me of Roseangela's. I've only had their thin crust, and if I lived closer, I'd go more often. Have not eaten their other food, though.

Tried them all except Phil's when we were in the E.P., but always went with Beggars.

Nick n Vito's is the best pizza in the city, maybe the state. Palermo's is decent, good chance ya run into that shitbag Madigan though. I'd go Deja bru before any pizza place if ya are doing a FF draft and want to be in Oaklawn.

I do not condone the term "pizza pie." However, I did hear an older person today refer to a "pizza parlor," and I thought that was charming as fuck.

Phil's is good pizza. Really thick, oily cheese. The cheese snaps when you bite into it. It is very, very similar to the pizza that was always served at Russo's in Alsip (not sure if they are still there, but that pizza was legendary).

It is absolutely nothing like Roseangela's which is much thinner and more well-done.

I still have not found a tastier pizza than Beggar's, though.

Mid Villa Pizza on 122nd and Harlem is close - man, they have a damn good pizza. Sweet sauce, but not as overly-sweet as Palermo's, and the crust is really thin and natural-tasting

Fox's has great super-thin pizza, as does Vito-&- Nicks. You can eat a thousand pieces of each and still keep going.

I have been hearing a lot of good things about Tata's for years, but I have never had the chance to try it.

Beggars is good but they lay it on too thick. Im all for getting value but if you get a sausage pizza you get like a whole italian sausage per square.

I would put Barracos in with the Fox's/Vito and Nicks super thin pizza

Barracco's uses entirely too much fennel in its sausage. It dominates the palette in a very distracting way.

I forgot about Fox's. They had good pizza to. What about Chesdan's? Used to go the Archer Ave. location.

They moved out to Homer Glen area before I got out of there. Still good.

All Barracco's use the same ingredients and the same patented sausage-dispersing Machine (the owener invented a flat-press that puts an equal amount of rabbit-turds on each slice of 'za).

Lucano's, owned by a Baracco's family member, uses the same sausage and sausage machine as well.

Phils is solid. Vito & Nicks should be the choice. They are pick up only though so if you need it delivered I'd do phils. Last time I had Fox's it was ass.
