Yeah, that's an underrated cut. It is a good price point for quality of the meat you are getting cooking it at home. Also if you aren't going to grill, you have to get a cast iron skillet just for things like this. Nothing else can sear as well.

I've thought about this for about three minutes and am still a little back and forth on it, but I think on most days I would lean towards steak.

For the purposes of this discussion, we aren't talking world class steaks that cost $100.

Outback. I hear people travel all the way to Peoria for it!

Seriously though I think I gotta give it to burgers for the versatility. You can get a pretty good burger for $5. The same cannot be said for a $5 steak. I don't crave steak like I do a good burger.

I hope they aren't hungry. It closed about 10 years ago.

Exactly.

Any monkey-ass can make a fucking great burger at home.

You can't make a great steak at home because 99% certainty that you can't buy the required meat.

My buddy's wife has a small fridge like a dorm room sized one.. She puts a big cut of beef in there for 4 or 5 weeks unwrapped and then cuts off the outer layers.. Then she cuts em into steaks... They are as good as any steakhouse cut I've had.

Great steak. If it's like a "last meal" scenario then the choice is incredibly easy

This is madness. How is this even up for debate? Burgers are a high-floor-low-ceiling food. How can a great burger be better than a great steak?

Great burger because of all the cheese you can put on it.

Maybe this is why you think chicken is better than steak. You are eating rotten meat.

Depends on the cut of steak. I'll take prime rib over a burger, but I'll take a burger over a Tbone.

I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up the butchers ass but I'd rather take his word for it.

The answer is steak.

Problem with a T-Bone is you are cooking two kinds of steak at the same time that could deal with slightly different prep. I've had great t-bones but they aren't nearly as bullet proof as a ribeye..

Where does Salisbury Steak fit into this analysis?

I'd pay $50+ for a great steak...$15 for a great burger is about my limit.

You food Nazis are exhausting people.

Of course a steak is a higher quality cut of meat that's more expensive. That doesn't mean that some people don't enjoy the taste of a burger more.

Food, by its very nature, is completely a matter of opinion, and yet there's always someone there to tell you what the "right" answer is.

I'm Curious as to where you guys are getting all these bad steaks? Ponderosa? Jewels?

Worst steaks I recall are cube steaks, pan fried. Just looked it up, cube steaks are top round. figures. leave round to the hamburger guys.

I can take expired ground beef from Aldi and fancy it up into a great tasting burger. There really is no comparison here.

BTW, if one person brags about liking their burger "Well Done" I am deleting my account. I can't post here anymore under those circumstances.

So if someone tells you that they prefer a good burger to a good steak, your response to them is that they're wrong?
