We bought our ice cream from http://petersenicecream.com

They had the highest butterfat content available.

Have you tried a concrete from Culver's? Chocolate custard with cherries as the mix in. I like to add marshmallow cream for the second mix in because it changes the texture a little.

I'm not a fan of Culver's, but I love the frozen custard concretes at Scooter's on Belmont @ Paulina. Fresh bananas and graham cracker pie crust is my preferred combo. Absolutely amazing.

Wisconsin seems to have the secret to make a good dish fatter, tastier and alcoholic.

Hey, you look cheese soup? We have beer cheese soup!

You like fried fish? How about a beer batter?

Shake Shack and Shake and Steak both have awful milkshakes.

Pro Tip: The key to a good chocolate milk shake is to make it with vanilla ice cream.

Best shakes around = Margies.

Tell that to Margie's, they know what they're doing.

Chocolate shakes with chocolate come out too rich. Chocolate shakes made with vanilla are perfect.

All real ice cream places know this.

Pretty sure Sam is trolling you.

Of course the best chocolate shakes are made with vanilla ice cream. That ain't no secret.

Vanilla ice cream
Milk
Hershey's Chocolate Syrup

That's all you need.

if that's true you should try it the correct way side by side with the way you do it, I bet you will change your opinion and the way you do it.

I'm 100% certain Hershey's Syrup isn't "the right way".

That's the way to do it at home, at least. There's no need for Foo Foo syrup.

Yeah, that's fine for home, but these guys are talking about restaurant shakes.

You need that vanilla syrup added if you're going to use chocolate ice cream.

I make some of the best homemade chocolate cake you'll ever taste. Key ingredient: pure vanilla extract

I'm a fan of vanilla ice cream in chocolate shakes at home, but yeah, I always figured restaurants use chocolate. Jet, that's a good idea with the vanilla extract. Vanilla takes some of the edge off the chocolate.

There's no trick to it. I made ice cream parlor shakes at my family's honest to goodness ice cream parlor. I made a lot of shakes. I know what I'm talking about.

I tried Steak and Shake three times and left disappointed each time.

I won't go back anymore.

Vanilla ice cream
Vanilla extract
Milk
Chocolate syrup

Take it up a notch -

Throw a spoonful of Nutella in there and 1-2 spoons of peanut butter and few oreos for texture.

I lived on those for about 3 months when I had my jaw wired shut after a vicious cockfight. I also have recipes for an Ensure milkshake if anyone is interested.

Just on principal though...a chocolate syrup made with cane sugar will trump a chocolate syrup made with corn syrup.
