As much love as that gets around here, I've still never tried it or seen it made for any function.

The only place I've ever seen it around here is in my back yard. Maybe this summer you can come over and we can smoke stogies and complain about Seacrest.

that's funny, I was just going to say "go to Kansas City", but figured nobody likes a smart ass. I'll be there for a long 3 day weekend end of July. I always liked the beef ribs at Jack Stack and they have a full bar.

Out here now and ate at Jack Stack's Freighthouse last night. Hitting Joes for lunch after WWI Museum today with a stop at Boulevard...KC is a good visit for food and beer.

I went to Flat & Point last night. This place is great. Not what I'd call traditional barbecue but the brisket was awesome. We also had a smoked pork meatball and many other dishes. Whole barbecue stuffed trout. I can't say enough about this place.

When you get a chance to eat at the 7th place finisher from Hell's Kitchen you have to do it.

I didn't realize he was on there. His brother and I have kids in hockey together...and that's how I know about Papa Willie's. He probably mentioned it and I wasn't paying attention. It's still pretty fuckin' cool.

wrong thread, not a BBQ place. They don't smoke their meat and for some reason they are proud of that. Everything cooked on a grill.

I had no idea until I checked out their website.

Your nomination is denied since "BBQ" is in the name of the place.

technically, its my denial that you are denying.

Let us know how it is, I'm curious how grilled bbq rates compared to smoker bbq. Seems like an odd choice for the restaurant to make unless there's some niche in the market for people who don't like the taste of smoked meats?

I figured you'd call me on using "nomination"...but I didn't feel like editing it.

I'm busy getting in trouble...just took my son for his first haircut in a couple years. Didn't tell my wife. Wish me luck.

If I'm still alive tonight, I'll give a review of Willie's.

Serious response: Big Ed's up in Gurnee/Waukegan is solid.

I remember Big Ed's as being pretty good and wouldn't mind trying it again, but it'll be too far out of the way for me. I really don't want to go north of Evanston, where I'll be spending a lot of time during the first part of my visit.

Big Ed's is great, my personal favorite BBQ place. The best thing there are the burnt ends, but they often sell out of them so it's wise to call in the morning and reserve an order if you aren't planning to be there till later in the day. I used to do that all the time for our trips up to Wisconsin. Would call Big Ed's in the morning and tell them to put 2 orders of burnt ends aside and hold them for us for dinner. Always worked out.

The pulled pork is also really good as is his wife's peach cobbler. Brisket isn't as good as Smoque, but not many places do brisket as good as Smoque.

I was in Waukegan last night and ate at Big Ed's. I was lucky and got the last order of burnt ends. They were outstanding.

Why on earth would anyone submit themselves to going to Waukegan?

I've often dreamed of going to Big Ed's after a trip to Waukegan court, but I'm usually out of there by 10:00 or 10:30 the latest, not exactly in the mood for bar b que that early.

I drove up last night and got a room. I didn't want to wake up super early and fight traffic this morning.
