I've never understood the meatball sandwich- barely possible to consume as a sandwich, usually requires a fork and plate. If you want to give me Eye-talian fixin's on a burger patty, I might like that. Or, give me a plate of meatballs and some bread to sop up the sauces, that's great, too. But the meatballs just fall out of the bun and the sauce makes it a sloppy mess. And this is coming from a gentleman with very few food-consumption limits, as evidenced by ogre-like obesity, huge hands and a big, fat, mouth.

(Why must I feel the urge to pronounce this food item as an Eye-talian sang witch? I'm none of the typical demographics to do so...)

That may be why they first melted cheese over it...to keep the meatballs from plopping out.

This is a bullshit list of sandwiches and I will not acknowledge it. Who did they poll, Naperville?

Guess this answers the question whether a hot dog or burger is a sandwich.

That's the thing - I'm down with a good BLT and a PB&J - outside of that, it's all about ethnic sandwiches and the like.

The patty melt is deserving of sandwich inclusion/discussion.

I expected grilled cheese to be pretty high, but surprised by how low PB&J is.

When I was a kid my dad would routinely order Turkey sandwiches from Caputos on 79th and Columbus. It closed down when I was in high school and I haven't had a turkey sandwich that good since.

It's rolled in with all variations of burger.

None of which make the 'wich list.

I thought about that after I posted it, but I think I will let it stand on its own. I truly stand behind it.

You never watched Saving Private Ryan?

Bacon sandwich featured prominently in post-DDay scene.

I prolly enjoy a good breakfast sandwich over anything, but adding that to your daily diet is a one way ticket to obesity.

I drove through Detroit this weekend and took Adam Richman's suggestion on The Yardbird at Slow's. I thought it was great. It made Detroit even more beautiful

My wife made Reubens for supper tonight- then told me she did not have any Thousand Island, and used mustard instead. I guess they really became grilled sauerkraut and corned beef sandwiches, then. I suggested pre-toasting the bread to limit the sogginess in the future, I needed to use a fork, so maybe they weren't even sandwiches at all! Still great tasting and will feed the shaper just fine.

Apparently, the sale price of the pumpernickel bread is the trigger for offering the Reubens.

That is how St. Louis invents new foods.
