I don't generally like breakfast. It makes me sluggish.

My favorite time to eat breakfast is for dinner, I don't like eating in the morning.

I completely agree with this.

Why the hell would you choose either waffles or pancakes when everyone knows French Toast is the superior option.

Furthermore, if you do consider pancakes, you have to at least have deep fried pancakes. Deep fried pancakes are superior to waffles.

Lastly, leave all 3 off your plate so you can fit more eggs, bacon, biscuits and potatoes O'Brien.

Or a Hardee's biscuit.

Some very salient observations on the matter.

Pancakes are sent from Heaven and waffles come from hell. No one should celebrate eating styrofoam.

A waffle is an evolved pancake. It's a shame you prefer the neanderthal over the cro magnon. The only reason pancakes aren't extinct is because waffles require a special apparatus in creating the mutations that make it superior.

Evolution doesn't require special devices that makes something great taste like styrofoam. No sane person would intentionally eat a plain waffle.

You eat pancakes plain? If so, you have no business even being in this convo.

I'm saying that the best way to tell which one is better is how they taste plain. Drowning the styrofoam taste doesn't make a waffle better.

What's better? Plain bread or a plain cracker? What's better, Pastrami sandwich or a cracker with dip or cheese or whatever? Point is, bread is made for such accouterments, as is a waffle. A pancake, it's a guessing game with the volume of butter and syrup. I find myself making adjustments 1/4 of the way through. A waffle, you're one and done because of the pockets and it doesn't turn to mush. How either of those tastes plain is moot. Neither is made to be eaten plain.

I'm a pancake guy, not a fan of waffles. Waffles are too hit and miss and often too crunchy for my liking. I like the soft pillowy texture of a pancake much better.

I remember watching as a kid Chilly Willy put jelly on his pancakes and thinking it was incredibly strange. I still have never seen anyone do that to a non swedish pancake.

yar and WTF?

Canadians literally eat maple syrup on a stick as candy.

That's Quebec. From various references over the years, I believe Kirkwood's wife is from the GTA.

She is! But her Dad is a Quebecois! He passed along the greatness of Montreal bagels but oddly maple syrup was left behind.

Okay, I'll play along. What's a Montreal bagel? I'm assuming it's like a Chicago Sunroof or Cleveland Steamer

A bagel from Montreal. They're slimmer, denser and have larger holes than NYC bagels. There are 2 bagel shops, Fairmont and St Viateur, that run 24 hrs pumping out bagels.

How about the smoked meat? Any good elk-based dishes?

My wife makes yeast risen waffles you have to start the night before. Very good. Lite and crispy.

Either of these have to have real maple syrup.
Those are very good. My wife adds pearl sugar which puts them over the top. I agree on the real syrup as well - Funks Grove (Shirley, IL) has a "sirup" which is aged in bourbon barrels. It's fantastic :alien:

I mean I'm am omelet guy myself but if it comes down to which overly sweetened pastry with half a stick of liquified butter and a cup of high fructose corn syrup with artificial maple flavoring I'm most interested in i have to go with waffle. The individual cells are perfect, you can have one half buttery and one have syrupy and it doesn't turn into an soggy sugary kitchen sink sponge in seconds.
