Has the salsa bar survived covid, or did it go to some request only bullshit? When I lived here, I liked killing an hour watching Sunday afternoon baseball there a couple of times a season.

I have only gone to Katy's once since Covid hit, mostly because I had been very careful not to sit inside places until my father had been vaccinated, and because what I like from Katy's doesn't transport well to a hotel room. But it is on my list to visit when I am back up in July.

Yeah, I never got the love for them either. Maybe back when anything more than a mile south of the BNSF tracks and west of 83 was farmland, but not in our lifetimes. Compared to peak early 70s original Hackney's, Country House is an Applebee's.

I actually haven’t had their burgers. I have had their fried chicken which was pretty good. And the patio in the Geneva location is nice on a sunny summer day. Beautiful view.

The Geneva location seems better maybe because it's newer. We stopped there a few times after hockey, it's a little odd that not much is around it.

I always preferred the Hackney's on Waukegan and Lake. Went to a Bar Mitzvah there in 7th grade. Some kids from my school chugged cough syrup and threatened to beat up the 20-something DJ because they didn't like his music selection. He seemed frightened by them. I'm not sure why my classmates were so incensed. The DJ played plenty of slow dance music, and all the girls pressed up tight against the boys while the songs were on. I went to a bunch of Bar/Bat Mitzvahs in junior high school and loved them all!

The problem with the larger Hackneys was that the service was much iffier. The problem with the smaller Hackneys was that the wait could be horrible on a winter weekend.
