I really like the idea of this app when reading many articles about how much of the food in the U.S. is thrown out. The Too Good To Go app allows restaurants to sell food that is not sold in a given day to be offered at a discount through the app at the end of the day.
Quote:
Too Good To Go app launches in Chicago; helps people buy food that’s too good to waste. The app already has 1 million U.S. users. Its goal is to reduce food waste by selling “surprise bags” from restaurants, bakeries, and other stores that have food left over at the end of each day.

Through the app, consumers can buy a surprise bag from restaurants near them and pick it up at the end of the day. It costs $4 to $6, but always be less than the value of the food in the bag.

“The food you get on Too Good To Go is food that would have been sold full price just 10 minutes earlier,”

I doubt "10 minutes earlier" is accurate, but its still a good idea

even the best run will have some waste, but I think these places are getting pretty good at estimating their needs for the day, to the point that they will run out of things rather than overproduce

What is the expectation here...that the bag will sell for $5 and contain $8 worth of food based on the menu prices, or will it be $5 for a surprise bag of Joe's Stone worth $50? It sounds noble, but I can see restaurants trying to make money off it.

It's a good idea when the alternative is to throw it away.

its probably mainly bakeries and supermarkets

most restaurants aren't cooking anything of value on spec. Maybe you get a soup or salad

I think I saw Roost Chicken and some pizza place on there but the app very new so I assume the amount of restaurants will grow once adoption get better in the region. I see this would work with fried chicken as many busy restaurants don't make food to order but make large batches to increase customer turnover and i'm sure there is over stock by the end of the day.

sinicalypse did some dumpster-diving for free and everyone made fun of him. We should really be making fun of people who pay to dumpster-dive on an app.
