Does anyone have a recommendation for a (good) Chinese restaurant in the Glenview area?

Tong's on Dundee in Northbrook. I haven't been there in awhile but it used to be great.

Maybe I've never had really good Chinese food, but aren't they all basically the same? Some are better than others, sure, but are any really "great" in comparison?

They are all the same. Only difference is the egg rolls. Best egg rolls I've had is canton chef if Schaumburg on roselle and weathersfield

You can go crazy high end. I ate at a place in the Peninsula Hotel about a decade ago that was terrific. However, I tend to agree that the Chinese restaurant in Suburb X is more or less the same as Chinese restaurant in Suburb Y.

I’ve found that to the extent a place does seem to differ, it’s normally not a good thing.

Mecca Man recommends Yu's in Schaumburg. It was always a cut above the typical Chinese place. In fact, Bob Chin and his family used to patronize the place.

There's now a Yu's a lot closer to Glenview on Milwaukee Ave. in Wheeling.

I'm not sure why I would trust Bob Chinn when it comes to food considering his own isn't very good. Fuck him and his plastic cups.

Years ago, friends of mine of the Jewish persuasion used to swear by Bin Hai on Pfingsten in Northbrook, which I think you have to take seriously. Unfortunately, from recent reviews, it looks like the place has gone into the shitter.

Yu's is also great, but didn't realize they opened in Wheeling.

Haven't been to Chinn's in years. The food used to be really good in the 90's, but figured after Bob passed that the quality would go down.

They used to have a great dover sole and the mai tai's weren't as watered down as the last time we went, which was probably around 2015 or so.

Their stuff is always fresh, I’ll give them that. Only place I trust to get crab legs in the area.

Bob Chinn's sucks and I stand by that. That's why they had to pull every trick in the book to attempt to stop Boston Fish Market, which is infinitely better, from moving in across the street.

I like Boston Fish Market, but both places have gotten so ridiculously expensive that I'd rather just hit up Supreme Lobster and make my own at home.

Yeah. I like it because it's old school. No one would ever create a restaurant like that now. The food is fine, adequate. But it's a cool place.
