Not close to as good as Pita Inn.

 I don't think he's an Arab but the main guy at Halal Guys on Touhy is super cool. I just don't like his food as much as Pita Inn. I take it you've had Pita Inn. After you try Halal Guys let me know what you think. I even like Naf Naf better than Halal Guys.

Is Poochie's still there? That's where I would go.

Yeah, new location though. And I don't think Poochie owns it anymore. I went to grade school with his daughter. I don't like my fries cooked in peanut oil.

I've had Pita Inn a couple of times, but not recently. I've had Halal Guys at both Touhy and Gold Coast and it is really good. Comparing the two is unfair to both as their variety of spices vary widely.

I separate Naf Naf from the both as well.

I've never been to Halal, but was wondering how it was. Terrible location for them in Skokie, being so close to Pita Inn.

I'm interested to hear how you have Halal, Pita inn and Naf Naf all in different categories of middle eastern food?

The shawarma / gyro has different flavors at all three.

The tahini / garlic at Naf Naf is much different than the white sauce at Halal Guys. The rice is also significantly different.

Naf Naf has vastly superior pitas.

Pros and cons to each.

Isnt that just different recipes of the same items? Different Mexican restaurants have different flavors but its all the same category.

Yeah, I mean, I never said they were different types of foods. They are different enough that I don't mind having each when the mood strikes. Why do I need to compare them when I like them for different reasons?

JORR asked me why I would go to Halal Guys over Pita Inn. I think I answered it.

Technically naan is South Asian, [in my best Sarley prose] you chorizo skillet.

Mediterranean is way different than Gulf-type food, which is also different than the Egyptian cuisine. Other North African regions have different cuisines as well.

One way to separate Naf Naf from Pita Inn is that Pita Inn has never had to close one of its restaurants. Naf Naf in downtown Naperville just went out of business.

Naf Naf has 28 locations. Pita Inn has 5.

I don't think closing one location is that much of a negative when you look at Naf Naf's growth since its inception about 7 years ago.

anytime you have to shut down a restaurant because of lack of business it's a negative and might be an indication that they over did it in the expansion department.

That was their third Naperville / Aurora location? It might have been over-saturation...I don't know. But since the other locations in that area are full service and the downtown one was shawarma only...I could see it not doing as well.

They continue to open locations in other markets and their four Loop / West Loop locations are thriving. The lines at the Mt Prospect, Rosemont and Niles locations are always healthy.

You can fanboy with Pita Inn, that is fine. As I said...I've had it and while it was immemorable, I'm sure it was fine.

Funny thing is that after multiple consumption of this same concoction, I can happily report there is no ring of fire issue in this case.

Had a taste for a Big Mac today and tried the new Grand Mac. Pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting much in the way of
different taste but was interested in just how big it actually was. It's essentially a Double Quarter Pounder in a Big Mac
costume. Why I liked it was that I think the regular Big Mac is a bit small and I've bought two Big Macs for $4 sometimes
when they have that deal but I don't enjoy it because there is too much damn bread. This worked out perfectly. I just
bought the sandwich, and at $5 that is quite a bit of money for just the burger but since I hadn't had one in a while it was
quite satisfying. Might have been too much food for me with fries and a drink.

Portillo's got me thinking today... Although I like their many meaty sandwiches, their salads are pretty good too. I was looking at the salads, and their featured salads (not a side salad or Caesar salad) cost $7.59. Chicken Pecan, Chopped, Garbage, Poppyseed Fruit, Apple Walnut, etc. One exception: the Southwest BBQ costs $7.49. That is ten cents difference. 1.3%. What is the reason for this pricing scheme?

BTW, Thursday chocolate cake slices are 54 cents in celebration of their birthday.
