Shakes may be right about Bari. I haven't been there for a couple years, and haven't been able to check it out on my last few visits to the city. Before moving to New England almost five years ago, I was a regular at both Bari and Grazziano's, and Bari offered clearly superior deli meat and bread. That said, I always placed Bari beneath Riviera and Nottoli in the world of Chicago Italian delis. Riviera and Nottoli are both located fairly close to the Harlem/Belmont intersection. Now I get my Italian deli fix primarily at places in Boston's North End--there are several excellent options there if you're ever in need. I am also a big fan of Bob's Deli in Medford, MA.

My last (and only) trip to Boston resulted in us getting excessively drunk at Loretta's outside Fenway after a Cubs game. Fun town, but I won't be needing a deli in Boston anytime soon.

Were you dressed in any Cubs attire? In my experience, Fenway isn't a particularly friendly place for fans of opposing teams. I'm solidly middle aged, and 20-something hooligans always seem to "accidentally" bump into, elbow, or otherwise hassle me when I'm at the park for a White Sox game. Fuck Fenway and New England provincialism.

Yes, we all had Cubs' gear on. One of the guys in our party suggested we shouldn't wear Cubs stuff. In our 17 years of doing this trip, we always worn Cubs stuff including at Citi and Citizens Bank without issue.

We went to the Saturday game of that three game set last April. It was 75 degrees, just perfect out. The stadium was probably 40% Cubs fans. Every person we met from Boston was friendly. Loretta's was 90%+ Cubs fans that night. We had zero issues. They treated us well.

Folks I have spoken to since from the Northeast say that Boston folk don't have a hatred for the Cubs. They send all their hate towards the Yankees and don't pay much mind to Chicagoans.

Boston loves the Cubs as a sister team so to speak. At least that has been my experience.

Boston fans are cult-like. Weird combination of arrogance and trashiness.

That said, I agree, Dennis. I lived out there before the Cubs got good, and so they pretty much just felt sorry for me. But those Boston-New York rivalries... that's some real shit.

It seemed that way. I have found that local fans find it odd that people would travel across the country to watch a baseball game. Once we explain how we do our trip, they think it's pretty cool. The Citi fans were the most amazed and we made tons of friends at the game as I mentioned in T-Bone's thread about Citi Field.

If you haven't done it, hit up the Sam Adams Brew tour in Jamaica Plain..fantastic.

A different group of friends and I have been doing brew tour trips. We started with Leine's a few years back, and then Steven's Point area places last year. But we are doing the mother lode this year with a booked trip to Munich for Oktoberfest. Appreciate the idea because we are always looking for new adventures. With the kids being self sufficient now, we are free to travel a lot more.

I think we're going to N Cali wineries next.

I'm not a huge fan of Sam Adams, but the samples they serve are right off the vat, it was the most delicious beer I ever had. Brew tours like Anheuser Busch you don't even get right off the line, they basically buy back from a distributor. Lame.

People bag @ Wrigley, but if you are in the cheap seats at Fenway it really fucking blows, they don't even have cup holders. The Stadium still is a huge dump in many areas.

My brother loves Sam. I like that summer one, but generally I am not a fan. I find the beer burns out too fast, and I am a volume drinker.

The lack of beer vendors in our section (none) sucked plus the food and beer lines are separate underneath the outfield. It would take a full inning to get a beer, while the food lines were empty. Kind of a bad system. I loved the ball park though. I was surprised how much I liked it.

you can't go wrong with the italian with their homemade giardinara either. I've also had the prosciutto and mozzerella sub, very good.

I went to one game in Fenway back in early 80s, Boston vs Yankees.

We sat behind first base and spent the whole game watching the various fan brawls in the outfield bleachers. Seriously, one after another all game long including at least one entire section brawl involving at least 20 people.

Being as it was the early 80s they just played on.

That is a terrible idea given that Trillium consistently produces some of the best beer in the world and is easily accessible for visitors to Boston. Sam Adams doesn't even make the list of the top 10 beer destinations in the Boston area.

New Yorkers really are crazy. I went to a Giants-Cowboys game with some friends who were originally from New York. It was crazy. Cowboy fans were harassed at every turn. They couldn't even sit and enjoy the game.

The tuna at Graziano's is really good as well. They make each order of it by hand at the time of order starting with a new can of tuna. I don't like mayo so I order it with the least amount possible to hold the thing together and then add in other stuff I like.

Both of them deliver to the loop, by the way. They really should advertise because there is no reason to order from any of the other shitty downtown sandwich places when you can have some of the best delivered to your door.

Well, the tour is free(they ask you to donate a couple of bucks at the door to a charity) and if you are nice to the guy at the end, during the sampling session, they will let you drink a ton extra. So you are wrong.

meant to mention the tuna at Grazziano's. I agree, it's really good. Pro tip: have them put some giardianarra in it.

I don't think Philly's Best is some otherworldly experience but it is really convenient being at Jackson and the expressway. My boy would play Friday night football at SICP and we would grab one on the way home without altering our route.

tried double QPC at McD yesterday w/ the fresh beef....have to say it was a very solid burger. I would get it again.

Is fresh beef a new thing at McDonald's?

it was actually juicy. I realize it's a tallest midget thing but i'd say it vaults them into best fast food burger

the problem with this is that no one goes to McDonalds because they are craving a good burger or even a burger. You go to McDonalds because you are craving the distinct taste of McDonalds. Would I ever rate a McDonalds double cheeseburger on the same level as a boutique burger? Of course not, but some times I'm definitely more in the mood for a couple McDonalds cheeseburgers as opposed to a Kuma's or even a Red Hot Ranch.


So I don't really see the market for a good burger at McDonalds as silly as that sounds.

There is some truth to that. Sometimes its the convenience of McD's being the only thing around, or open, or that its there and its quick. But yeah sometimes a McDouble and some fries just hits the spot for whatever reason.
