Going to Dallas in January for training. The training facility is in Farmer's Branch and I was looking at staying around the Addison area. Any recommendations?

The biggest bust in Wisconsin.

Don't ever go there smokers just because of the cool name. The Kenosha County Jail will be your next recreation area.

I once almost got shot by a pheasant hunter when I was wandering around the Bong recreation area while stoned walking with my dog. True story.

Saltgrass. Get a nice fucking steak. The locals will send you somewhere else. They're wrong, people in Texas have handicapped taste buds. Note the shit they drink in the bars. Listen to Darko. Saltgrass.

Really KS? Have to make this thread about Kenosha? :x

FarveFan - How is the Addison area? I booked my hotel there, seemed decent. Some hotels further south near Loves Field seemed to be in a seedy area. Originally I thought to book in Arlington but it was about a half hour drive each way to training and I really don't want to deal with commuting that far if I don't have to.

Darkside - Thanks for the suggestion, I will check it out.

Bone Daddy's was a massive disappointment, even in light of the free ice cream cone.

It was extremely unwelcoming, there was little special to do and the nicer places were wildly over rated. It had a very odd vibe to me. It was filled with the worst of Second City Chicagoans(with their inferiority complexes) mixed in with the worst elements of the old South.

The people seemed remarkably arrogant/deluded to be residents of a place in the middle of nowhere and with nothing remarkable to see. When the best your city has to offer is completely filled with really uninteresting drunks and Stepford wives, no thanks.

I haven't frequented Addison too much but it seems as nice as any of the other mid-cities. Gloria's is a very good inexpensive Mexican restaurant there that has cheap drinks.

I haven't seen any of that the few months I've been here. The people are really friendly around here(especially compared to Chicago, the drunks are more interesting here also). For Dallas being as big as it is I haven't run across the arrogant attitude that big cities often have that you allude to. And the worst elements of the Old South?? Maybe you had a bad experience here or maybe it's because I'm coming from Louisiana but that's laughable to me. You hardly see any confederate flags or really backwards hicks like you see in places like Beaumont or even Houston(sorry HH).

Wondering if maybe I misidentified that place... could have sworn it was the big famous Bone Daddy's... is it right off of Stemmons?

I had the Brisket and the Beer can chicken, both were good.

i will say twisted root in richardson(?) was pretty good. very good root beer and food.

i didn't hate dallas for being unwelcoming. it was just extremely uninteresting. a larger plano (lol).

there's a hobbit house somewhere around there, though. i may still have a picture of it.

Not true. New Orleans & most of S. LA(obviously), Mobile, Houston/Austin/San Antonio, Miami, Savannah & limited parts of the odd Carolinas are cool beans in my book.

And well Tennessee does have a certain spot around Lynchburg & a few BBQ spots in Memphis.

(Never been to Arkansaw...so ;))

But Dallas still blows in my book. I'd much rather be in Schaumburg.

New Orleans is cool but the rest of Louisiana pretty much sucks a fat one.
