Yeah, and after that you can go to this great butcher shop over on Big Timber called Rancid Meat.

 I just find "Burnt Toast" to be an extraordinarily odd name for a restaurant. I used to eat breakfast there occasionally when I worked out that way. One of my douchebag friends always orders the same thing wherever we go: "hash browns, blackened, burnt". That's exactly how he orders it. So once we were at Burnt Toast and they couldn't- or wouldn't- burn the potatoes to his liking. He kept sending them back. Finally, the owner came over and asked if he wanted them deep-fried. So he moral of the story is, you can't get burnt hash browns at Burnt Toast.

Jimmy's Char House, Just east of Randall and just north of 90.
Nothing spectacular but I've never had a bad meal there.
Very good value, as well.

I, however, have had a bad meal there. Montarra Grill is easily the best restaurant in Algonquin.

Can’t be as bad as the meatloaf at Birch Trail.

Jimmy's is fine. Monterra is considered the best. I like a little more downscale, so the Randall Roadhouse is one of my choices as evidenced in the info to the left.

This place is on the Fox River in South Elgin, a little difficult to find but pretty cool...

I have yet to try them. But I have never heard a bad word about them.

In Algonquin I would recommend Port Edward. Cool place located right on the river. For a unique & romantic experience, make reservations ahead of time and ask to be seated in the boat...a small sailboat floating inside the restaurant.

We went to Port Edward, saw the prices were much higher than Bob Chinns and then prompty left to drive over to Bob Chinns.

But Port Edward is so much more charming than Bob Chinn's. I know people who swear by Chinn's but as a general rule I try to avoid places that give me a light-up pager to let me know when the table is ready and I hate drinking out of plastic cups.

I wasn't impressed with port edward. The menu was, meh at best and was over priced. They didn't have half the selection of what Chinn's has. I know a few gourmands that would rather eat at McD's then port edward.

Cheesecake Factory has a really wide selection, too.

I know a few gourmands who would rather self-immolate than eat at Bob Chinn's.
