Mr. Beef is Homer Glen is my go-to

Portillo's is just too.....shaved ? clumpy ? it's not like actual slices of beef
plus i think Portillo's has the best fast food burger, that's what i get when i'm there screw the beef

Used to be a place (might still be?) in Lemont across from bowling alley. Tucked in the strip mall where Sears Hardware was. Had a great beef with sport peppers I think mixed in.

i know the area you're talking about but i'm not sure of the particular place
and why would you mix sport peppers in ???
oddly enough i really like giardenera a lot (and spicy foods in general), i put it on salads all the time...but on beefs i just want sweet peppers

I actually liked the thinly shaved beef. I have had weird moments of clarity when eating beefs with thicker slices when I have become completely grossed out. I got this feeling I was eating skin or something. It still makes me squeamish when I get a beef that has thick slices.

I like Giardinara. The hot was just a thing for this place I guess? Another south side place people swear by is Tony's on about 80 something and Pulaski. I can't remember having it in the all the years I lived there but they claim the best.

I always find it weird that these beef places all sell beer.

Do any of you ever get a fuckin' Coors Light at noon with your beef and cheese fries?

I've only been to the one in...Des Plaines?...on Elmhurst Road. Might be the worst beef I've ever had. I guess it could vary widely by location.

I have. I don't often.

hmm....as far as i know the only locations are Orleans st. downtown and Homer Glen (and i believe only HG is operated by the original family)
Maybe it's a slightly different name ? Like Mister Beef ? Or Mr. Beefy ?

Quote:
"In 1980, armed with the original Mr. Beef on Orleans secret Italian beef recipe, Lou Bosco’s dream of becoming a restaurant owner became a reality. An Italian immigrant who understood the importance of hard work and dedication, Lou began his successful journey. The first Mr. Beef & Pizza opened in Arlington Heights, with locations in Park Ridge and Mount Prospect to follow.

A family run business, Lou’s legacy continues with his daughters and son-in-laws running day to day operations. True to his Italian roots, the importance of family shines through at Mr. Beef & Pizza. We take the time to get to know our guests personally and treat them as part of the family. It shows in the quality of our food and the friendliness of our employees.

Mr. Beef & Pizza is the place where “Food, Family & Fun” are always on the menu."

Offshoot. Same logo, practically...so it must be allowed by the ones you're speaking of.

Has anyone ever had the combo at The Big Chill in Joliet? These people make food with love but only take cash, fortunately for them they have their own atm. They use a Italian patty instead of a sausage, I always get it with red sauce, cheese and giardiniera.

By the way IMU, if you didn't already know, Buona is celebrating beef day tomorrow where beefs, sausage, and combos are half off. Something to do with Rizzo too.

Without any particular order - these three are far and above the rest in my opinion

- Pop's on Kedzie near 103rd

- New Buona on Western near 107th

- Duke's on Harlem near eighty-somehing

Pop's used to be the main go to for me, but since the opening day Buona (or "the beef store" as my son calls it) became quite a hit in my family. It has the fanciest way I have seen a beef sandwich served. This new Buona also changed my rather rigid position of what I consider proper on a pizza. I'm a fan of their beef/giard pizza. Pop's and Duke's have that awesome in-house fresh cut pepper giardinera, but both are take-out joints for me, although seating can be found if you look.

Pop's and Duke's are the goods.

Ive had some of the other Pops and while they are good, the one on 104th/105th & Kedzie is the best.

Tried Bada Bing Beef that opened up here on 45 in Grayslake. Pretty good. Better than Portillos
