hey IMU, don't front like you're the don of elk grove village. did you know that the former arby's you speak of used to be a Hardee's before it was an Arby's?

Indeed, it showed up circa ~96-97 and must have lasted until about ~02-03 before it closed and turned into an Arby's. Those breakfast buffets with the cinnamon rolls were great.... and even tho my down/out-of state hardees visits have pissed on my rosy colored glasses, their frisco sourdough burger has always been the goods.

Hardees has been around forever. I used to go there every saturday morning after youth football practice in aurora back in the 80's.

Did they cease to exist for the last decade or something that this is a big deal?

No

I ate at a Hardees when I was on my way home from Iowa last month...may have been one of the worst things I have ever had.

Isn't there thing to have as many burgers and sandwiches over 1000 calories these days?

I think so.

I had chicken fingers (was on the road), and they tasted like oil.

They downsized quite a bit in the late '90s, as I recall. Used to be a bunch of them in northern Lake County and southeastern Wisconsin, then they all went away. I got inordinately excited on my high school band trip when we stopped for breakfast at a Hardee's outside Paducah, Kentucky, and that was 2001.

When I moved out west I noticed these Carls jr places that seemed to be identical to what I remember hardees being. Then I started seeing them all over the country.

Maybe because it was located in the middle of nowhere and the employees there didn't give a shit?

People give a shit at fast food places?

Honestly, it wasn't my first experience with their food. I've always found their lunch product to be suspect at best. I've admittedly never had their breakfast. I remember the first time they washed out of the Chicago area (when I was a kid, there was a restaurant around the corner from my house), and I remember it being better then than it is now...in my opinion.

I would consider breakfast if I'm near one, but yeah, to call it a high end fast food is reaching, in my opinion.

It's like Steak n Shake. It's not so much high-end fast food as it's fast food that happens to cost more than most fast food.

Dammit...I had to look this up. It seems that Hardees basically went under in the mid 90's and Carls jr bought them and that is why they are currently very similar to carls jr with their menu despite still using the hardees name.

Well right. The guy who owns the franchise obviously wants it to stay in business. But the guy working the register or the deep fryer doesn't give a shit.

I don't get the Steak n Shake fascination, either.

When I have been to steak n shake I have felt like I was in a trailer park diner. The shakes are ok, the food blows and the company is as undesirable as humanly possible. The only one I can even remotely tolerate is in Springfield, MO and is one of the originals.

I like their shakes, and some of the fondest memories of my life comprise impulsive middle-of-the-night Steak n Shake runs. The burgers are just okay. I mean, 99 times out of 100, a burger is a burger to me.

I wouldn't call it "high end fast food." It gets the job done. I would rather have Jack-In-the-Box but Hardees gives me the nostalgia of my hometown. I still stop there on my drive south when I visit the family. Their $1 spicy chicken sandwiches were awesome, but I think they got rid of those ten years ago. :?

Hardees is not high end fast food but its good

Its Wendy's multiplied by southern innovation and hunger

Great drunk food but good for the occassional sober meal too

Steak n Shake is the most overrated thing ever, to me

I see what you're saying...but what is high-end fast food then?

Fast Casuals: Smashburger, Chipotle, Five Guys, Panera, Potbelly's, etc.

Higher end: Arby's, Hardee's, Culver's, Carl Jr's, Jack in the Box

Standard fare: McD's, Wendy's, BK, Taco Bell, KFC, White Castle, etc.

No?

Post Baconator, Id put Wendy's in the higher tier.

Yeah, I guess there is no high end fast good for me.

Never had Smash, hate CHipotle, Potbelly's is fine.

No

Your "fast casual", I suppose would be correct. Your "higher end" is really just more standard fare, just overpriced.

Arby's "high end"? Did you grow up in a no-Simpsons household?
