Anybody make/bake anything special for Christmastime?

My wife makes 4 or 5 batches of different Christmas cookies-- Ricotta cookies, peanut butter with a hershey kiss on top, M&M cookies, and regular chocolate chip. We got a new cookbook from my aunt so she will be trying some new ones-- orange creme cookies and some sort of cashew bar.

At our family party, my Mom always makes her famous chili which is not very spicy but is very hearty. Lots of beef and veggies! I make a Champagne punch. Its 1 bottle of champagne, 1 warm can of 7up/Sprite, and a tub of sherbet mixed together. Obviously it doesn't get you drunk, but it always reminds me of Christmas and other special family times whenever we have it. When we were kids my Mom would make it with sparkling grape juice for us little ones.

Any other special dishes or recipes to share?

I make a batch of Apple Pie with cider, juice, and Everclear
The wife will make a cake to take to Christmas dinner...if she has time, she will make a bunch of different cookies...if not, we will just liberate some from Michigan when we go back there for Christmas.

We have made a candy cane cake a few times that has been a big hit

I would love to try making a yule log but I hear it usually ends in the cake breaking apart when trying to roll it on your first try and I don't feel like dealing with the disappointment

Roll cakes are easy and people are usually impressed by them. Give it a go.

Last year I got a mason jar, dumped a fifth of clear rum into it, and threw a container of cinnamon sticks in it and shook it every day for about a week, then took all but one stick out. It was pretty good -- not sure it was that much different than a spiced rum, but people liked the homemade aspect, and asked for a handle for this year. And also not to throw away all the sticks -- apparently there was a stick sucking party after I had left.

We have a weird tradition of apricot nectar / vanilla ice cream floats on Christmas morning... doesn't do much for me, I have a bite from one of the kids and that's about it.

i was talking to a big mozzarella guy recently. he said most of the pizzerias (sp?) are owned by Asians. So you might be able to get pizza too.
