It took Leghorn all of 90 minutes to sell out of everything on opening day. The socially-conscious chicken shop with chef pedigree sold around 600 sandwiches, ran out of chicken tenders in 30 minutes, and was completely cleared out just an hour and a half after opening for the first time. There was a line down the street 10 minutes after opening.

Leghorn chef Sieger Bayer and chef/partner Jared Van Camp sell locally farm-raised chickens in house everyday and the restaurant warned customers that they would close when they run out. They've ratcheted the hype over many months and gained a serious following on social media. Still, did they expect the chicken to only last 90 minutes?

"We prepped enough chicken thinking it would get us through the evening hours, maybe 8 or 9 p.m. Instead we got run over—in a good way," Element Collective partner Chris Dexter says. "We're so happy to see that our little idea of a chicken shack with a message resonated with Chicago."

They hope to stock more chickens in the future so they can stay open longer.

Great, sounds like a cool addition to Ukrainian Village area. Perfect place to go after church lets out along with my guys at Bite Cafe.

Take a look at their menu and pretty much chick-fil-a in Chipotle/Blaze model. Fine. But then then the 2nd page:

Jesus, you're a fucking chickenshack. Pass.

I really despise the understocked food artist shop craze that seems to have started.

You own a business. Sell as much of your product as you can.

I guess you can only get so much socially-conscious chicken at once.

Good on them for their stances, but fuck them for the snarky, hipsterish, better-than-most attitude they are presenting - been seeing just a bit too much of that, too.

I'll never be socially conscious because for the most part society sucks. I dont like 99% of people I meet, they are dimwitted assholes. Eat the weird ass KFC mutant chicken, who gives a shit. The organic farm raised chicken wont make you or your kid less of an asshole.

EDIT: I have become an old cranky man...

Its like they jumped on the BBQ (OUT OF FOOD) thing.

BBQ runs out and they shouldnt be able to just pop in another slab of ribs!

In texas, its common for places to cook enough for the day and when they are done, they are done.

Seems a few other places are looking for that hip theme

Local chicken farms? Where is the nearest chicken farm?

Always remember the time I walked in at 5:27 and was told they dont take orders until 5:30, as the owner, Mr Pizza, was standing maybe 10 feet away....MAKING A PIZZA...and I asked "Whats that guy doin?"

I Guess it was the owner, I may have insulted him. Uh Oh...$33 later for a decent Pizza, would never go back. Would order a Dominoes before this place.

And I wonder what the guys rent might have been, it's a shit space on a side street and I am guessing he cant find cheaper space.

He should reopen as PRETENTIOUS HIPSTER PIZZA. Open from 5:30 to 7:29 PM, Cash only, 4 Ingredients and Must not look at me when ordering.

Probably the most over rated eating experience in my life.

Forgot there was a thread for this, my bad.

:D

Anyway, I tried this place yesterday. I got the chicken breast sandwich with the hot sauce and biscuit.

Sandwich was good, fries were decent but not worth the $3.

Edit:
Also, there were playing uncensored rap music. Of course, I didn't care as I was bobbing my head to it, but I'm not sure if the others in the Ukie Village will like it. Then again, it was 11ish in the morning and not busy so maybe the music changes during certain times of the day.

Leghorn's
Quote:
loud music vexing for some

11:37 a.m. CDT, April 2, 2014

When the group behind Leghorn began conceptualizing their chicken sandwich restaurant years back, part of its founding ethos was to be the philosophical opposite of Chick-fil-A's founders. This meant: Operate without religious connotations, open on Sundays, support gay rights and, most conspicuous of all, blast explicit hip-hop from its loudspeakers.

Music has become one of Leghorn's touchstones — walk into its Ukrainian Village storefront and get hit with a bass-thumping, earwax-dislodging medley of Wu Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Black Star and the like (yes, their hip-hop tastes veer '90s East Coast).

And so the reaction online has been as much about the soundtrack as its chicken sandwiches. One commenter on the local food message board LTHForum wrote: "It's just stupid. Just plain stupid. Change the music, no one likes it — not even a little bit."

Said Leghorn chef Jared Van Camp: "We've gotten reactions on both ends. Some parents who say, 'that's what I listen to and I don't care.' Others who say, 'I love it but I can't bring my kids.' Some were a bit angry. But we've done a decent job notifying the parents."

In fact, you really can't miss it. On the front window, a sign in large red lettering reads: "Loud and explicit music." It's a warning for some and an incentive for others.

Leghorn is at 959 N. Western Ave., 773-782-3936

It seems like a good business plan to not stock enough food to serve people willing to give you money and draw a line in the sand with your customers on the music you play.

I cannot believe they quoted some random post on LTH forum for that article.

That would be like taking a post from here in a sports article.
