Had lunch there. Had a hankering for a gyros plate. got sidetracked and ordered the chicken livers. Spiro said I could get it with sauce or with just olive oil, oregano, and lemon juice. I told him I wanted the latter. I got the former. Was OK. Nothing great.

Unsatisfied, I went down the block to Pan Hellenic bakery for a baklava and Greek coffee. Baklava was a little off today. kind of pasty. bought some of those honey/walnut cookies for the kids. those are always good.

anyway, that is my story.

I've never been a fan of Greek food. The tastes are too off putting (as is Roditys - the drink) imo.

Most people found my breath off putting in the morning after a night of heavy drinking followed by a Gyro sandwich at Kings and Queens on the way home.

I'm a big fan of greek food, mostly. Not the mushy precooked moussaka-type stuff. but a double-thick lamb chop right off the grill? mmmmm. various cold spreads, saganaki, pink cold wine..lol.

I cannot imagine sleeping after a drink filled night topped off with a gyros.

You see, in the "community" it's either a polish sausage or "chopped steak" sandwich after a night of heavy drinking. Not better, but different

I was going to make an exception for that, but it seems much, much less 'Greek' than the rest of any Greek menu.

there is this greek eggplant spread, melitzosalata, or something like that. equal parts olive oil, eggplant, and raw garlic. that grows hair on your tongue.

should have clarified, this was the Roditys on Halsted in Chicago, not the one in Santorini.

This is an excellent example of something(like most Indian food) that I cannot bring myself to enjoy. It's healthier sounding than most of the crap I eat, but despite my otherwise varied palate, I cannot stomach it. I used to routinely try & retry to, but it's never worked for me.

Greek for me is a bi-annual gyros.

If I heard the story right, it's about as Greek as saganaki as well.

Halsted Street Greek Restaurants in recent years Roditys has slipped on my board. These days it's Greek Islands.

Greek Island is the best one that I know. I just wanted to grab a bite at the bar and Greek Islands is full of regulars and chumps like me don't get the JORR treatment. Turns out Roditys was like a freaking ghost town and there was nobody at or behind the bar so I just sat at a table.

Why do you say that? They are Greek in the same way that tacos are Mexican. Perhaps a bit different in the states but still an actual ethnic food.

Yes it is.

Made differently, but a Greek food none the less/

Took a photo at Pan Hellenic. I remember going to this place as a kid in the 70s.
