Tell us your favorite.

Mine is Portillo's. I know there are more gourmet offerings now, but nothing beats a Chicago style dog from Portillo's.

Jimmy Thick- Enjoying a dog with the unwashed simpletons from time to time makes me appreciate myself even more!

I've never been all that much of a Chicago Dog guy, but Portillo's gets it done for me.

And heck with the haters, I put ketchup on a hot dog....bite me! (I want to get a shirt that say something like that)

Gene and Jude's is great.

I love Fast Track on Lake quite a bit too.

I also love ketchup on a hot dog.

Gene N Jude's double dog, or Portillo's Jumbo. Occasionally Poochie's if I'm up that way for something, but I usually get the cheddar burger there.

Jimmy's on Grand & Pulaski. A proper no frills dog and great fries.

This and Nicky's (58th and Kedzie) works. 3 dogs and fill the bag with fries a couple bucks way back when.

I prefer hotdogs from the old Alex Theatre. That is a perfectly sane food.

yes, another case of misinformation ...

considering the hot dogs are already cooked then they leave the Vienna plant, it really isnt cooking the product, but just the preperation. Some places prepare the hot dog poorly.

The point being, not really a skill to assemble a hot dog....even a 16 year stoned kid in HS can do it!

When I was a kid growing up in that neighborhood, a dog and fries at Jimmy's cost twenty-four cents!!!!

best dog is grilled to start.

worst is a deep fried dog,,,,,,yes, many places do this!

steamed bun....if you need poppy seeds...ok....they are tasteless and get stuck in your teeth.

prefer grilled onion and brown mustard.

running it through the garden looks great, tastes ok and is a complete pain in the ass to eat

I don't know, man, I've seen that place in New Jersey on TV where they deep fry them until they split and then dress them with a special relish. Those look pretty good.

I like both Jimmy's and Gene & Jude's but those aren't real Chicago hot dogs. They're saving dough by refusing to serve the tomatoes.

Also, like every Evanston guy, I love Bill's (Or Bee-o's as the brothers call it), but that certainly isn't a real Chicago dog. I believe they use some cheap brand that's more like an Oscar Mayer than a Vienna. Those fucking hot dogs are gray. But for an Evanston kid, there's something about them that's comforting. You can't go wrong with the double or triple cheese(burger) either. And I'll give the Indians credit. When they bought the place from Bill's kid they had enough sense not to change too much.

Those hot dogs are gray because they have been sitting in the water so damn long...and the cheaper dogs are pork.

Will admit, havent had a dog in quite some time. I prefer to consume a more substantial sausage product if I am going to consume something in that arena. Gonnela roll also a better product that any hot dog bun. Italian sausage, brats, etc.

Can't find the best since Tastee Hastee bit the dust. Gene & Judes is OK. vastly overrated.
