why not prostitution

Pretty much every reason for the other legislation from this weekend also applies to prostitution as well.

Hey, we need the dues!

Do you think it should be illegal?

I already said in the post above, if you accept all of the reasons for legalizing gambling, marijuana and abortion, I think it is logically consistent to accept them for prostitution.

I don't think we would be a better society because of it.

I do think it would create a healthier industry for all interested parties for a service many partake in even when illegal...and think of all the tax revenue.

I think it should be legalized. I tend to have a very libertarian outlook when it comes to social issues, i.e. as long as no one is harmed... But I am open to being persuaded that personal autonomy should not be the highest value. I'm not sure that Western Civilization can be separated from traditional Christian morality.

The Sohrab Ahmari-David French beef touches on issues like this.

It can be, but it will not survive.

Is this similar to a French Dip, because I find that just a lame-ass Italian Beef, and, as such, should still be banned.

I think Ahmari's take is that there isn't a better option to do so.

He's a fool. You cannot use evil to achieve good.

If the only hope for good Christian values is a walking caricature of crass wealth who gets into feuds with Rosie O'Donnell and the ghost of John McCain, then bye-bye, horse, let me just close this here barn door.

Was it evil to drop a bomb on Nagasaki? Did it achieve good?

Western civilization will be fine.

Morality is nothing more than what we find acceptable. Of course, it predates Christianity. But whether you want to acknowledge such or not, the prevailing morality in the U.S. during your lifetime is- not just informed by- but nearly completely a product of Christianity.

I'm going to argue that burning a city of a quarter million with a radioactive bomb is just a little more evil than talking shit with Billy Bush. But hey, maybe I'm the one with the busted moral compass here. Who knows?

You're doing nothing more than justifying an evil that you believe achieved a good. I'm not sure how it could be described any other way.

Is that a common sense rule? Really? One of the most popular politicians in the U.S. is running on a platform of theft.

Violence is not inherently evil. A cop shoots a dude between the eyes that's holding a knife to a woman's neck. Not evil. This is not hard.

Do you really think that sinners never do good?

Or that all leaders should be above moral reproach before we listen to them?

1. The goodness of an action is measured by the intention of the action, not the result. We are all sinners. However, some amoral individuals have no desire to be anything but.
2. Not sure what you're getting at, but I don't ever listen to habitual liars.
