Today we were running calls. I had him doing the heavy lifting while I watched him closely.
We finished a call and got sent out to a call about 40 minutes away. He's riding in my truck. So he says "hey so you like answering questions, and are mind of a science guy right? I got a weird one for you."

Antioch, I must say though, that I do appreciate your attempts to make me sound like the asshole for not wishing to discuss religion with a new hire while I am in a position of authority where I determine whether or not to initiate him into the union.

Idk, I’m not intentionally being an ass but people so rarely show you who they are - particularly young people. I’ll typically air on the side of giving them room to say what they want.

So while riding in your truck to a job, you refuse to entertain conversation that doesn’t involve your trade or the concerns of your customer? Correct. I'm paid to teach the trade. The drive time between calls is designated as time to discuss the previous call and the mistakes made (or correct diagnostics performed) and the next call (while we discuss what the issues could be, how any issue would present) and the apprentice is to review any available previous diagnostic history available in the system and apply that data at the call we've been dispatched to.
