It's been 10 years since I've actually baled small squares. 90 degrees and high humidity is a great combo for working outside. tossing bales. Last I threw small bales into a barn was, 2017? I think. Even tho square baling was minting money--the horsey set pays $5+ a bale if they pick up, another dollar or two a bale delivered to their barn--it was getting more and more difficult to find high schoolers willing to do the work, no matter the pay. And you can't get college kids to even think about manual labor these days. Worst job would be at the end of the day when we'd want get all the raked hay off the field and decide to stack full the empty wagons off a kick or throw baler. Brutal when one of those 50+ pound suckers would catch you not paying attention. |
