I've determine that the 2nd amendment allows me to own a tank and bazooka. So I am planning out how to acquire one. I hope that is ok?

Tom Clancy owned a Bradley (at least until his wife took it back in the divorce, along with his editor and will to live).

Gun control seems like a dead end.

Why aren't we talking about banning marriage? Seems like a better idea.

The story of the origins of the NRA are quite interesting. Goes to show you can start off with a hobby and escalate to the largest civil rights organization in the country.

Religious rights, too.

I have zero respect for the NRA. They aren't concerned about rights; they're concerned about the almighty dollar.

So you basically want to ban most firearms? Just to be clear.

So where did this guy get all of this training? He didn't just break a glass and start shooting. Was this a government sting gone bad?

I saw two weird stickers on vehicles yesterday. The first said, "NRA...Stand Up and Fight!". What or who are you fighting?

The second had a picture of a rifle with the words, "You can give peace a chance, I will cover you". That sounds like a guy who wants to shoot somebody.

I have never been in the NRA or owned a gun. However, I wholly support the 2nd amendment.

In any case, every gun enthusiast and NRA member that I know is absolutely worried about gun rights. The NRA as an organization is of course worried about its own finances, but the individual members care very much about their gun rights. The stereotypical guy is someone that loves to hunt and sport shoot. They also ten to be collectors of different types of guns much like people collect classic cars or baseball cards.

Just light in the abortion debate, advocates on either side realize that giving up an inch is a slippery slope. That is why the NRA fights so hard even on issues that many of see as reasonable controls.

Most NRA members are bootlickers who worship authoritarian government officials such as police officers. There are reasons I have issues with the NRA when they side with cops and should be siding with legally armed civilians who get murdered by them.

The NRA guys I know don't have any specific love for cops. But when forced to choose a side in the police vs suspect debate, yeah they're going to side with law enforcement. I think it's just their love of seeing things get shot. There is a passion for firing a gun that I just never understood.

Which arms do you think the framers contemplated future citizens bearing?

I'm honestly curious as to how the framers intended the 2nd to apply to cannons, that might give us some better insight into how far the proterction was meant to run to preserve our ability to protect ourselves from the government itself.

I'm pretty sure that private citizens were allowed to have cannons to protect their merchant ships at the time.

I'm not certain that the framers ever contemplated fighter jets and nuclear bombs, but the language and expressly stated purpose of the Second Amendment, i.e. "the security of a free State", suggests that military grade weapons were what they had in mind. There's really no point in having such an amendment if all it does is allow the citizen far inferior firepower as compared to those with whom he may be in conflict.

100% agree with this and it's why 2 sides of any issue in this country can't ever agree on anything. The instant one side says "you're right, we don't need X, it should be banned. The other says "great! , now let's talk about Y". That's why regular everyday gun owners will support the NRA (or other people supporting the extreme advocates of their particular cause).

On a separate note, the semi-auto thing does scare a lot of people. They hear semi-automatic and envision Al Pacino in Scarface. I own 1 gun. It was my grandfather's 12 gauge for deer hunting. It holds a grand total of 3 slugs at a time. It's semi-auto though.
