Don't read this

and the response to this 1 incident was to make our officers trigger happy so that they could claim they feared for their lives when they murder unarmed civilians.

At this point it's safe to say the pendulum has swung way to far. Police can either take the initiative and fix it themselves or they can expect more incidents like Dallas last summer, and my sympathy won't be with the cops targeted. As it stands, more US civilians will be killed this year by police officers than by Islamic terrorism. Let that sink in.

The thing I hear all the time is "a police officer's only job is to get home that night". And the only reasonable, rational response is "No, it isn't." That is, literally, both literally and figuratively, not their job.

Yeah I've seen this and it's tough to watch. I believe a cop told me they show this in just about all law enforcement academies.

Reality is that cop made mistakes that most if not all of us would know better than to make.

If it wasn't for logical and actual fallacies like these, threads like this would be pretty barren around here.

There are actual cops that read and post here. Maybe you can take a moment and they can privately educate you about what they do and go through each day. Here's hoping that you do.

Not everyone hates all cops like Ogie. I'm always respectful, but I'm white. That makes a difference.

Not everyone who hates cops needs to post such patently false information.

Can't we all agree to leave that to CNN?

My post on terrorist killings.. I missed the US reference in Ogie's post. I will leave this here as proof that I am not perfect though. I know there was some doubt about that. Thank you for pointing it out.

Wow, wtf. That prosecutor is ranked "highest in Tennessee for (prosecutorial) misconduct," according to the Harvard Law School.

I remember I made a Perry Mason joke (always go over good) and JLN got it, but it was funny how in all the episodes once he'd expose an error , Hamilton burger was just interested in justice
But obv now prosecutors need notches on their belts, and the bad guy has to be found even if it's the wrong one

We had a situation in our neighborhood yesterday. Apparently there was a cell phone call to the suicide hotline and they claimed it came from my friends house. Police entered the house through an open garage citing it as cause to enter the house. Guns drawn they searched the house surprising the wife and 8 month old baby. They were home alone but wouldn't leave until they looked everywhere.

Police walked the block with assault rifles telling everyone to go into their homes with no explanation. After twenty minutes of looking, they left with no updates.

Only offered the explanation to the wife whom the ordered into a bedroom. She was scared half to death and shaken up quite a bit from the experience. Amazingly no pets were killed, but this seems like the situation pets are killed.

The reported suicide name was mike, and no mike lives at that address.

Never watched any episodes of Perry Mason, but Raymond Burr was great in Godzilla 1986. That film had the ability to heal--my sister and her boyfriend had broken up but reconciled after seeing G86 together--and I think Burr (who was a fat fuck by 1986) served up a whole heaping helpful of that curative, restoring magic on his own.

Cops can keep barging into homes like that and wonder why surprised home owners (who think it's a break in) fire on them. I welcome cases where cops illegally barge into homes and are welcomed with a barrage of bullets by the law abiding tax payer.

Perhaps they will eventually learn not to break into people's houses.

From the NYT a few months back. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often and each time this happens I will 100% side with the home owner.

If you want to serve a warrant, show up in daytime with the warrant in hand and knock on the fucking front door. Otherwise you deserve a bullet in your face.

Infuriating article.

Four ounces of pot gets you 18 months? Five plants? What a joke.

A pair of officers with Richmond Police Department could face disciplinary action after photos of them sleeping in a local cemetery surfaced on social media Saturday morning.

The original post — which has since been hidden from the view of some users through the poster's privacy settings — was captioned, "Check out what we found this morning," and includes five photos. The images show two individuals, both appearing to be in uniform, sleeping in the front seats of a Richmond police cruiser.

The images were shared to at least two Richmond Facebook groups before being deleted later, and the original post included a geotag indicating the images were taken at St. Andrews Cemetery, 1701 Liberty Avenue.

The car was parked along one of the cemetery's roads when the photos were taken around 8 a.m. Saturday.

Richmond Police Chief Jim Branum told the Palladium-Item RPD plans to launch an internal investigation on the matter. He had only learned of the situation about 30 minutes before being contacted.

"Obviously, it's not OK," Branum said. "It's certainly something that's not encouraged. We're aware of it and we're going to launch an internal investigation and in all likelihood there'll be some discipline."

The post as of early Sunday morning had garnered dozens of comments and thousands of shares on Facebook.

Comments on the post were split between support for the officers, criticism of the person who posted the images and criticism of the officers or fear for their safety.

The original poster did not indicate in the original post whether she tried to wake up the officers, but stated in comments on the post that she saw the car parked with the engine running for more than two hours before she took the photos.

The author of the post declined to comment on the matter when messaged on Facebook by this newspaper, other than to reiterate that the individuals were both in police uniforms and each was asleep in the turned-on vehicle at the time the photos were taken.

Branum said the police department has a policy directing officers not to sleep while on the job.

"I think it's common sense; I wouldn't want to call for police action and have an officer sleeping somewhere," Branum said. "And people with any other job would not be allowed to sleep while they're working."

Thanks for the clarification on that one.

Sleeping on duty is about the least objectionable thing a police officer can do.
