One story that I don't think has gotten too much attention is the police shooting of those who are mentally ill or mentally different. I guess it is hard to judge whether someone who is acting erratically is going to be violent....but coming from a family that has been touched by autism and mental illness, this worries me. What might seem dangerous to a cop might not be....the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time deals with this issue a bit....

I think this is like the 4th time this year I've heard about the police shooting or attempting to shoot a person with a mental illness. What stands out is that in each case a loved one or a caregiver called for assistance.

If this is the same story...so many asshole cops lately that its tough to keep track.

What has happened is that the lack of a properly functioning government- i.e. no budget in IL and nothing getting done in Washington, and an economic system that is leaving behind about 75% of the population has caused the average person to lose faith in our system of government. You see it in the political campaigns- Shake up Springfield won in blue IL and with a crazy rebellious non politician in Trump. Folks are so sick of the traditional career politician that they are willing to roll the dice on someone selling a fresh dream. But the tone set by Trump is not constructive. He uses rhetoric that encourages violence and promotes shouting down opponents. As such, we cannot have a real debate on issues that are tearing this country apart. The entire Black vs. Blue lives matter is a perfect real world example.
