These situations seem to happen one after the other.

Let me say this guy should not have declared his License to Carry before he reached for his wallet. However, he should not have been shot ImO. Especially with a girlfriend and child in the car.

He absolutely should have told them he has a conceal/carry permit. With a normal officer, that sets a rapport of honesty and tends to put them a little less on edge.

The full ~ 10 minutes of video ... obviously NSFW/L ... all things considered that broad holds her shit together awfully well.

One might take particular note at the moment when the little girl tries to calm her mother by saying 'it's okay momma I'm here with you' or something like that.

My inherent distrust of government and fervent belief in the ideals of the U.S. Constitution get affirmed when I see these videos. And I agree that you have to wonder about all the stuff that happens off camera or with Federal Government spying. I just don't trust government employees to be good guys all the time. It is why we have to have due process and a strong court system to check the power of the executive branch. It is also why I leaned towards Snowden and his disclosures about government bad behavior.

Not all of these police shootings are black and white (no pun intended). There have been some where I can certainly understand why the police officers would feel threatened etc. Important to remember they are not all the same even though they will and have been lumped together.

That said, The most recent one in Minnesota is as cut and dry as it gets =. Cop should be arrested and brought up on Murder 1 charges. Anything less would be a gross injustice.

Yes, very sad. But you read about all the shootings in the Tribune after a weekend, and you see how pervasive gun violence is across society. I don't know if you saw that Dollar Store shooting where the customer shot the clerk who caught him stealing because, "He didn't want to go to jail."? Well, guess what, now you're definitely going to jail.

The law enforcement shootings are so much worse because these are the folks paid to protect us. The idea that a cop would pull a gun and shoot a guy reaching for his ID is warped. In the cop's head, is it a realistic possibility that the victim would have pulled out a gun instead and shot the cop? I mean it's all messed up. The entire social contract breaks down. You get pulled over for a broken tail light and end up dead. Everyone loses (Or should I say MANY lose).

Yeah the violence amongst people in the community is bad and tough to fix, but the stuff with the cops is beyond the pale they are sworn to protect and serve and they have a power trip so strong that they end up executing people. There has to be a way to rein this shit in. At least the cameras and cell phones and stuff are finally bringing all of it to light as messed up as it is.

The Minn video is bad. Is there any video before or during the shooting? The only one I have seen starts right after.

I don't know if we just didn't know about it or what but it seems like the general opinion of the police is now that the life of one police officer is worth more than the lives of one hundred suspects. Most of these deaths the suspect is putting up such a weak fight if not completely neutralized that the officer is in virtually no danger.

There is a chance they may be so they need to protect themselves.

Here's another one.

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-m ... story.html

Maybe its time to discuss arming police officers with only non-deadly weapons. Just having special units (SWAT) which are armed for special circumstances.

Been tried in Mexico, and that ain't working well either. You end up having the army doing civil law enforcement. They can't even nationalize education. No way the locals let the Feds handle law enforcement.

I'm not entirely clear on whether it's even copacetic Constitutionally speaking.

Plus, look at federalized security services like the TSA ... I mean, it doesn't get more blue-ribbon than that outfit of fuckwits and ne'er-do-wells ... the WalMart Greeters of the security industry.
