That’s the part that dates it. Hepburn in a younger self would have matched Poitier, but they figured they needed a wide eyed hippie for him to fall in love with.

Love Weezy in it too.

Also great. I don't think it's a movie that could be made today. It's contemplative and slow. People don't have much patience to consider things anymore. I NEED AN IMMEDIATE REACTION!!

I'm probably predisposed to find it interesting because my wife is not from my drunken Irish culture but I legit think it's a movie worth seeing.

I think it can be universally be accepted as a film about parents’ apprehension about their kids rushing into relationships in general too.

He didn’t have to be black for there to be a conflict. A sunny, floptop surfer white boy could have just as easily been pre-judged by the parents.

Exactly. It could have been a timeless piece but they felt the need to infuse hippie-culture into the movie, presumably to make it more marketable, I get it.

But, it just takes you out of the movie at different points - milkman, the ice cream drive-up, Joanna.....

It was ridiculous in its timeframe. Another problem.

Maybe I hate this movie.........I don't.

It does have problems, though. I still go back to Poitier falling in love with this inexperienced young person in, whatever it was - 12 days.

It makes you question his judgment but the whole movie is that you should not question his judgment.

It’s believable enough that he wanted to recapture his youth, with the young love. He lost his first wife, tragically. I think they thought too much of Joanna though. The filmmakers. She was bad. His heart was pure.

Rewatching now. Starz Online which we have because of that pornographic Outlander show.

Damn! Poitier’s wife and kid died tragically also. I forgot about that.

Katie looks like she’s crying in every scene of this movie.

She must have been an emotional wreck on set.

Spencer was dying. To her death she never watched the final reel of the film, it was too painful for her.

Never heard that but I believe it.

I think he died about 8 days after that last scene.

Yep, he was really at the end. Still turned in a hell of a performance.

I never felt it was a performance.

It always felt like the first “reality TV”.

It was Spencer Tracy talking to Katharine Hepburn. Transcendent.

Enjoying an old fashioned home-made tonight.

Started a new job and lasted 4 days before getting accused of sexual harassment. Apparently saying the word secretary was a "trigger". Back at my old job. Never burn bridges. Ever.

Yeah, believe it or not. I mean, I'm the last person I thought to have to deal with that shit. She did the waving her hands in front of her face thing and all when I said it.

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA...had to go replace the CO2 in my kegerator earlier. Guy fills it and it is leaking at the seal. So, new tank, got it home, hooked it up, had to test it to make sure I had the pressure right...

Ha, no. I was also told I was "too flippant" about her son's ADHD special needs.

Tonight is the first sips of Hopslam. Great as always.

So did it go down like "Hey, coffee girl, tell your son to take a chill pill?"

(Sorry to hear about it Hoffy. Sounds like bullshit.)
