It was both. A huge tree limb went down and took out the power lines from the pole to my house hookup on the roof, as well as completely torpedoing my neighbor's shed. The Dish (left from previous owner) is in tact, but the cables are all down.

ComEd showed up about 4am and made sure there were no live wires down. At that point I got the generator out and going for the sump pump and fridge. Looks like some minor burns and damage to the roof. Thankfully it appears to be all minor and outside of the hassle of no power for a bit, everything else will be fine. I would guess at least 60mph straight line winds came thru the Orland area last night.

Damn...

Having a battery backup for your sump is a good idea given your water issues

Yeah. In the past I've just dragged the generator out and plugged the sump into that. However, in the past there was also no risk of live wires being down in the yard either.

My 11 year old followed me out to the back. I heard the storm so was going to close umbrella and grab towels off deck. Right as I got out there, the canopy blew over and hit the umbrella. Instead of going in, she decides she's going to hold the canopy so it doesnt tip over. She couldnt hold it against the wind obviously and it went and with it the table. She could have gotten hurt badly. I thought saying go in was enough for an 11 year old, next time ill have to physically put her in the house.

I had a talk with her and have always tried to stress that people matter, things dont. I think her mom/my gf being a bit of a neat freak makes her freak out if something breaks.

Anyway, all is well. Little clean up today and buy a new (non glass) table.

In a truly dangerous situation a real "I said get the fuck in the house" is acceptable.

I gave her the serious voice. I think she's good now.

I am sure. I am half kidding about people in general that might take a very dangerous situation as a time to talk the situation out with a kid.

Battery back ups are a pain in the dick, water powered back up is the way to go.

So Rawson bridge road out here is still closed, as is river road by the mchenry dam. Water still on the street by Mackies too... the fox is way overflowing from johnsburg d9wn to Algonquin and probably more but that's all I've actually seen with my own eyes. It's pretty crazy.

There must have been a microburst or something in Schaumburg. As I was coming home from work traffic started to get snarled around Roselle Rd. and Schaumburg Rd. There were several spots with lots of standing water, one near the high school. People were merging into the left lane to avoid it, and a guy in a Tesla Model X decided to be a cool guy and go through it...about halfway through he probably regretted his decision.

In the areas around the post office, the police station, and the high school there are LOTS of downed branches and, something I have never seen before, the streets are littered with leaves. It was like there had been a light snowfall, but instead of snow on the road there were leaves.

Itasca and Schaumburg got crushed. No clue how a full on tornado didn't drop from that wall cloud. It was a monster.
