For the rest of his life, this guy will enjoy a much reduced level of freedom than you or I. That's hardly "no problem".

A big part of this story makes no sense. Even if you smoke several dabs, you can still recognize people and your surroundings just fine. It doesn't make you impaired to the point of hallucinating and/or being unable to think or consent.

But yeah, this guy is a weird fuckin scumbag.

Do registered sex offenders not have restrictions or qualifiers placed on freedoms that otherwise wouldn't require them?

He got 240 days for drugging and raping his sister and you say 'yeah but getting a job will be harder!'

What't the appropriate amount of days for this crime though? Registering as a sex offender effectively places this person outside of regular society. Restricts his ability to make money, where he lives, and every relationship going forward is framed by this Scarlett Letter. It's a severe punishment.

There is no way this was rape, she was a willing participant.

Yeah, just going off the article, I don't see how this could be a rape. Smoking dabs doesn't incapacitate a person. There's gotta be more to this story than what was in the article.

So registering as a sex offender is severe enough punishment for all rapists? How many people actually know who the sec offenders in their areas are?

You are impossible to reason with when bullshit like "oh, so that's the only punishment you want for ALLLLL rapists?" is the first thing out of your mouth. Same goes for BRick, too.

I'm asking what you all think the acceptable punishment for drugging and raping someone is.

Drugging? So he forced her to smoke weed?

Beyond the specifics of this case your entire argument seems to be rape is bad, and if you don't want to severally punish people regardless of the circumstances then you support rape. Rape is an incredibly nuanced crime that often involves drunk young people. Those cases I would tend to err more on the side of therapy rather than send people into our abhorrent criminal justice system. The people that need to be locked up are ones that are serial predators or people using violence.

I think that the idea of "punishing criminals" is going to prove as outdated and ineffective as the war on drugs. I think we are at the point were the solution to crime is creating a major tax on our society, particularly on the poor and disadvantaged.

Just because courts and society in general exaggerate the effects of marijuana doesn't mean that it can't play a role in lowering inhibitions or making bad choices. This is a 16 year old kid.

You are all over the place in your offense. Will the life of the victim be improved if the offender is sent to prison for longer? I doubt it.

What should the punishment be? Should we just kill this guy?

You said that the family is seeing this through. The family is also seeing it through with the case of the teacher and the girl in Tennessee, and it appears that her home life was so terrible that it's what led her to run away. I don't know the circumstances of this case beyond the article, but I would guess that the home life for these two growing up was not ideal.

I think we can do better than eye for an eye these days.
