I was always partial to Cassidy.

Man, I don't fucking know. You ask me my top 5 favorite dead songs now, and then a month from now, and you might get 10 different songs.

Can't go wrong with this one or Cassidy as your choice though. For me, it's usually between Eyes of the World, Black Muddy River, and Terrapin Station, but there's easily a couple dozen others I sometimes convince myself are my favorite depending on the time and place I'm hearing it.

US Blues might be their worst song actually, even though they don't really have bad ones. I used to know an old deadhead (RIP) named Bruce who called it Useless Blues and I always found that amusing.

That's probably your mantra every Sunday night while clicking refresh on your fantasy football lineup.

I wanted to put "Good Lovin'" on there but didn't want to get yelled at. "U.S. Blues" wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have that fuzzed-out keyboard that sounds like a recording error.

I won’t go out of my way to listen to Good Lovin but much like Iko Iko it’s a fucking great song to dance to live in concert

Not a dead song, and probably not a best one, but I just always fucking dig this song when it comes on my dead playlist. Down the Road from Mickey Hart’s Mystery Box is worth checking out imo.

From the corner of my eye I saw the sun explode
I didn't look directly 'cause it would have burned my soul
When the smoke and the thunder cleared enough to look around
I heard a sweet guitar lick, an old familiar sound

I heard a laugh I recognized come rolling from the earth
I saw it rise into the skies like lightning giving birth
It sounded like Garcia but I couldn't see the face
Just the beard and the glasses and a smile on empty space

Touch of Grey is good for what it was...a gateway drug to get the MTV generation into the Dead if they didn’t have another influence to do it.

Truckin is probably my favorite of their songs, but I found a really solid live cover of Mama Tried somewhere

Sugaree is a touch one, as on many occasions it was dreery slow and boring, but played with a little bit of energy, it's one of my favs.
