I argued with myself about posting this or not - after hearing the podcast, there is a high chance I probably knew JORR in real life.

I lived in Skokie during 72-79. From the podcast JORR talks about living there as well around that time.

He also talks about hanging out @ Skokie 7-11's trying to score porn from the only white 711 clerk. I am guessing he is talking about the one on Lincon Ave. and Gross Point Road?????

What a small world. Maybe.

Where hasn't JORR been? We all probably crossed paths with him at some point.

Was it a creepy guy named Bill?

Did he get demonstrative about asking "IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE!?!"

The 7-11 was/is at Gross Point and Church.

I was a little north of y'all, I didn't usually venture south of UBAA/Schafers until I had regular access to a car, except for going to Elek-Tek on Lincoln.

But I'm sure that JORR and I must have been at Poochie's at the same time at least once in the 1980s.

That was definitely one of the 7-Elevens where we played pinball. Also the one on Church and East Prairie. But our main one was at Dempster and Hamlin. The same guys moved from store to store. I know now they were obviously Muslims but at the time we referred to them as "Hindus". What the fuck did we know? One of them was named Hassan. My friend Jeff called him "Hassin the Hin". I actually saw one of the guys not that long ago working at the 7-Eleven on Oakton near Milwaukee. He looked the same as he did in the 70s. I, however, look much older. Creepy Bill worked at all three of the stores.

Could be! I went to middle school with Poochie's daughter.

Didn't any of you Skokie guys play pinball at Big Herm's, the Bunny Hutch, All-Star Lanes, or Oakton Bowl? Those were/are some pretty cool spots.

I don't remember pinball at the Bunny Hutch but definitely played at the other three. And Old Orchard Bowl was really great for pinball. It seemed like they had a million games. Big Herm's is where I learned how to play Space Invaders.

Yeah, the Bunny Hutch is in Lincolnwood next to Novelty Golf.

The original suburban entertainment district. Novelty Golf, game room, batting cages and Bunny Hutch all in one complex with a common outdoor area in between.
