Post subject:  Argue the Opposite

Let's use this thread to take topics and then argue the opposite of what you believe or what you usually argue.

I'll start:

Women can absolutely compete in male sports; they just aren't given the opportunity. I'd be hard-pressed to believe that there are literally ZERO women in the world who don't have enough talent to bat at least .250 in MLB.

False. He is a fine actor, and "Mall Cop 2" is a classic that we run in a loop at my house.

I'm a little confused, are we arguing the opposite just for the sake of applying our own respective bits to the other side of an issue, or should we attempt to dismantle our own arguments? Either way I won't be participating in this thread because I'm always whit--I mean, right.

Antisemitism is a valid concept, because there is nothing in jewish sacred texts that makes them superior to or prejudiced against the goy.

As long as they're jewish, it's perfectly fine for them to have a double-standard.

Anyway, the reason that your [my] data shows such a strong correlation between run support and good pitching (as determined by FIP, which isn't the only metric out there by the bye) is because good teams tend to have good pitching. Outside of the White Sox for the last few years, bad teams generally don't have 2 or more above-average starters on their rosters, as they're busy trading those starters away for prospects or losing them to free agency. As such, reducing a sample to the above-average+ players is likewise limiting the sample of teams and offenses able to put up commensurate run support to those "good" teams who, surprise surprise, are pretty good at scoring runs.

Counter: The strong predictive relationship has been shown to exist across a much larger sample of pitchers not reduced by their FIP efficacy.

Good to see you appreciate greatness.

(but seriously do you want one of those over the other, or both?)

Don't worry. I'll make sure you have plenty of run support.

That's a bullshit notion concocted by a generation of fans who don't understand the point of the sport. The players are not robots.

Winning isn't the objective in baseball. It's better to look good and lose then look bad and win. It's time to get rid of the postseason and just award the WS to the team with the best Pythagorean expectation. That'll remove luck from the game and make it a much better sport to follow.

Such a crock of shit. Give me a team of guys who have historically won games, and you take the ones with the best ERA's and we will see which team has a better record. I can tell you beforehand which one won't need "run support" to win games. They'll go out and do what they're supposed to do.

Sam Presti made genius moves by daring several other teams to draft Durant, Westbrook, and Harden before it was his turn to draft someone. Then he smartly grabbed each player because no one else did.
