It may never be funny. My cousin was married for about 10 years and had 2 kids. She got divorced and married a woman and her ex husband is still upset about it 10 years later. Saw him at a party a year ago and he was still talking about it.

As someone who went through a divorce which didn't include a child or my ex leaving me for someone else, I would wait till he starts making jokes and you are 100% certain. It could be 6-8 months, a year, 2 years from now and he might seem fine but he is still hurt and upset. What is the upside? I still remember some jokes that some colleagues made when I was going through my divorce and that was 15 years ago.
