I hate to agree with BeerFan . . . but that article was remarkably silly and smug. In terms of history, it offers nothing you haven't heard before. In terms of politics, if the people in these sparsely-populated areas wield enormous electoral power, that's because the Founding Fathers compromised to make it that way. Plus, in many of these areas, young people have been leaving for three generations. There aren't any good jobs there.
